Not just in the UK but through-out the world there are some excellent cycling evens to take part in. From family rides to sportives to time trials and races. However, here we look at some slightly alternative cycling events, cycling events in the UK that could be described as unusual or even whacky – some are competitive, some are not but all of them look fun!
1. World Naked Bike Ride UK
Dates: TBC [2019: June]
It does what it says – it a bike ride where everyone is naked (at least in some part)! A peaceful, imaginative and fun protest against oil dependency and car culture. A celebration of the bicycle and also a celebration of the power and individuality of the human body. A symbol of the vulnerability of the cyclist in traffic.

2. The London Tweed Run
Dates: TBC (2019: 4 May)
A bike ride with style. Forget the lycra as for this ride you’ll need to take to the streets of London in your tweed finery. Plus, there’s a tea break and picnic break along the way and that’s not forgetting the jolly good knees-up afterwards.
3. Brompton World Championship
Dates: throughout the year (2019 final: 3 Aug)
As you might expect, this is a race where all cyclists are riding Brompton folding bikes. There are qualifying heats throughout the world with the final in the UK.
4. The Pie Run
Dates: TBC (2019: 28-29 Sep)
Location: Inverness – Lochinver
Cycle from Inverness to the Pie Shop in Lochinver before closing time to claim your prize! This event only started in 2019 but watch this space for it running again in 2020.
5. Eroica Britannia
Dates: TBC (2019: 18 August)
Location: Bakewell, England
Dubbed as the world’s most handsome bike ride this event stipulates you must cycle on a pre-1987 road bike – and fancy dress of that era is also very encouraged. Very much a celebration of cycling and not competitive at all.
