1) Some believe e-bikes are cheating
This is something that is unfortunately still heard a lot and, unless you are competing in the Tour de France, is completely untrue. Our feeling is that if an e-bike gets you on your way to be fitter, healthier and happier then we are all for it.
2) Some feel they will be judged for riding an e-bike
This follows on from the above and I am sure some will judge but the vast majority of cyclists will respect you for getting out on a bike be it electric or non. We certainly will.
3) The feeling that technology will be better if you wait
This is one that we hear a lot but by this logic you will never end up buying a bike. Now that e-bikes are firmly established, there are not the massive leaps forward in technology you would see when e-bikes were in their infancy.

4) You won’t get fitter/lose weight
There is a common misconception that on an e-bike you will not expend any effort, but you still need to turn the pedals to get the assistance. E-bikes, for example a Kalkhoff Electric bike will usually have different assistance modes so you can decide how much effort you will use. E-bikes can be a great way to get fit as you can start off easier and build your way up. You are also much more likely to cycle longer distances on an e-bike over a non e-bike.
5) E-bikes are heavy
This is one you cannot get away from, but a great deal of design goes into modern e-bikes to be very well balanced so that when you ride them, you barely notice the extra weight – a simple way to dispel this rumour is to try them as most people are pleasantly surprised at how easy they are to handle – any of our stores will let you try an e-bike before you buy. Another feature is the ‘walk mode’ on most models that will help you push the bike up the hill if you have to get off and walk.
Although not lightweight, stepthrough electric bike uk will be well balanced enough for you to think they are light when the motor is running.
6) Price
E-bikes tend to start at a higher price than non e-bikes which is understandable due to the extra motor, battery and frame material to support them. The counterpoint to this is to offset this initial cost against what you save on petrol, particularly if you start commuting on an e-bike. Not only does an e-bike save you money on petrol, it’s also less of a cost to the environment.
