Co-op member Ross recently went to The Cycle Show at the NEC, Birmingham. Here’s what he learned:
1. E-BIKES ARE THE FUTURE
From the moment you set foot in the massive hall you couldn’t turn your head without seeing either an E-bike or cargo bike proving that the recent explosion in popularity is set to continue and as technology gets better and better (and smaller – see point 2) this shows no signs of abating.

2. MOTORS ARE GETTING HARDER TO SPOT
This cycle show was the first opportunity for me to see Whyte bikes brand new Fazua E-bikes: the Hoxton, Winchelsea and Gosford. As you can see from the picture below, the 252wH, 60nM Torque motor is nigh on invisible at the bottom bracket as it is integrated into the battery casing in the down tube.
3. A NEW GROUPSET IS MEGA EXCITING
It’s not often in the cycling industry that a new groupset is unveiled and I had to suppress the giddy childish giggles when I saw the new Mechanical and Di2 Shimano GRX (the Di2 shifters were my particular favourite.

4. 29ERS ARE CONTINUING THEIR TAKEOVER
As seen in the trend of the past couple of seasons, 29er mountain bikes are continuing their rise following companies such as Whytebikes redeveloping their frames around the bigger wheelsets (pictured below the awesome looking new G-170 C RS 29er). Specialized are another company who are embracing the 29 with their amazing new Stumpjumper available as a 29 and their Turbo Levo E-bikes solely 29er.
5. THERES A USE FOR YOUR OLD INNER TUBES
Cycling being an environmentally friendly sport/hobby/travel option it’s awesome to see people still pushing the boundaries of what can be reused, recycled and upcycled and the company at the show that epitomise this are Cycle Of Good who take old inner tubes, send them to Malawi where they train people to turn them into wallets, messenger bags, phone cases and the list goes on and on. If you want to support this cause, hand in your old inner tubes at any of our shops!
6. BLING IS IN!
Finally right? Ask any of my colleagues and friends and they’ll tell you I love a bit of bling and there was plenty to see!
