A hybrid bike is what you need if you’re looking for the perfect all-rounder and thankfully, there is a lot of choice for under £1000. We have listed a few of our favourite sub-£1000 hybrids… and some of them will leave you enough change to consider buying helmets, clothing or accessories.

BEST HYBRID BIKES UNDER £1000 – WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Frame: you can expect a very good lightweight A1 or ALUXX alloy frame, or even one made with different grades of alloy, to give you rigidity where you need it, and flexibility in other places.

Gearing: you can expect good quality components (such as from industry-leading brand, Shimano). Because it’s likely you’ll be riding on a variety of flat and hilly routes, go for something with a wide spread of gears (from one to twenty-one or more).

Practicality: depending on when, where and how often you plan to ride, you might want to consider things like mudguard and pannier rack compatibility. Suspension varies between bikes but if you plan to ride on rough terrain, a bike with front suspension is definitely something you’ll want to consider (although it will add some weight). Hybrids are generally the most practical of all the bike types.

SPECIALIZED SIRRUS x 2.0 2022 HYBRID BIKE

At £749.00, this bike is great value, with lightweight aluminium alloy frame and single front gear for lower maintenance. The other great thing about this bike is that it comes with the versatile Pathfinder tyre, allowing it to be as able on tarmac and on gravel. Its disc brakes give you maximum reliability on your stopping power, and its ergonomic geometry means your comfort factor is ramped up so you can cycle even longer.

WHYTE Carnaby 2022 HYBRID BIKE

Whyte have been an iconic British brand for as long as we can remember, combining great design with with quality rideability. This Carnaby 2022, at £699.00 is lightweight and robust making it a great urban bike. The bike houses a Shimano Altus groupset with 9-speed gears, and Tektro hydraulic disc brakes . The T6 aluminium frame has internal cable routing for better aesthetics, and eyelets for easy mudguard fitting. Also available in the non compact version for people with shorter legs and longer torsos (Whyte Whitechapel)

WHYTE MALVERN 2022 HYBRID BIKE

For those that would like to do rougher off road cycling which would benefit from having suspension, the Whyte Malvern is an excellent choice. The Shimano Deore drivetrain is smooth and reliable and the hydraulic brakes give you sure stopping power even in wet and muddy conditions. Available in both compact and non-compact versions to suit all body shapes. All this for only £799.

LIV ALIGHT 2 Disc 2022 WOMEN’S HYBRID BIKE

A very practical bike, designed specifically for women, which can be fitted with full mudguards, a kickstand and a rear rack to carry panniers. A lightweight and durable aluminium alloy frame and upright flat-bar positioning, the Alight is the perfect bike for city riding. Women’s-specific geometry and sizing gives the Alight range a stable and confident ride quality. The RRP is £649 so a bargain to boot. There are various different specifications in the Alight range at various price points. Also available in a non compact frame called the Giant Escape.
