Whyte Glencoe 2019 - Multi-Terrain Road Bike
With a nod to its 650b x 47c WTB tyres, Whyte describe their all-new Glencoe debut RoadPLUS/Adventure bike as 'the best all round road bike we have ever made'
Key Features
- The trademark Whyte frame is as light as it can be and as strong as it needs to be, thanks to its custom drawn, frame size specific, hydroformed, multi-butted T6 6061 aluminium frame tubing
- Being a Whyte, the frame geometry is bang on
- The 74 degree seat tube angle position you 'on top of' the cranks to power you up hills
- The long top tube and the shallow 70 degree head angle make for stable downhilling
- This SCR-specific frame is optimised for the bike's single chainring drivetrain
- SRAM APEX 1x11 offers all the benefits of a single chainring drivetrain
- The chainstay and forks both boast particularly neat flat mounts for the disc brake calipers
TRP HyRd Disc Brakes
- TRP (Tektro Racing Products) HyRd disc brakes deliver confidence-inspiring all-weather performance
- TRP HyRd cable-operated hydraulic disc brakes work with conventional brake levers, yet they offer the adjustability and power previously reserved for hydraulic brakes. The advantage of this system over any previous cable-actuated disc brake system is that the pads are much easier to set up at an optimal distance from the rotor without rubbing
- These brakes automatically self adjust so the pads move closer to the rotor as they wear down
- This means that TRP (Tektro Racing Products) HyRd disc brakes maintain optimal performance over the whole life of every set of pads
- To quote road.cc's review 'TRP Hy/Rd disc brakes combine cable actuation with hydraulic power right in the calliper. They're powerful, easy to live with and the best solution so far for disc brakes with conventional brake/gear levers.'
WTB Horizon TCS, DNA Compound, Folding, 650b x 47c tyres
- Describing the Glencoe as a Road/Plus bike after its 650b x 47c plus-size WTB tyres underlines the notion that, almost always, nothing influences the ride characteristics of a bike more than its tyres
- The supple, lightweight, folding WTB tyres are so forgiving, you'll be riding the Whyte Glencoe over kerbs, potholes and cobbles with hardly a care
- But here's the clever bit - the tyre's rolling circumference (where it makes contact with the road) is no greater than an equivalent 700x28 tyre
- This helps explain why a properly made, lightweight plus-size tyre with a folding bead isn't just more comfortable and compliant: it can be at least as fast as a skinny tyre - more on this
- The tyres are fitted to a sound set of wheels with smooth spinning cartridge sealed bearings
- The tyres and rims are tubeless ready
- Why upgrade to tubeless?
- It does the Glencoe no harm that the tyres' tan sidewalls help make it such a beautiful road bike
