Product Description

Details

Whyte 909 2018

The Fox Float Performance fork and the SRAM GX Eagle 1x12 drivetrain inform you that this is the absolute top of the range Whyte 900 series trail hardtail.

Upgrades from Whyte 905

  • The Fox Float Performance 34 fork's Grip Damper offers consistent 3-position (open, medium or firm) damping, upgraded with a stiffer Boost 15x110mm through axle.
  • The SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain delivers 1x12 gear shifting via a 10-50 cassette, making this the widest range one-by transmission to date. The resulting 500% difference between top and bottom gear (compared with SRAM's previous best 420% 10-42 cassette) gives you the wings to soar high
  • Why you want a one-by drivetrain
  • The rear wheel is built on, perhaps the most reliable, best proven, nicest sounding MTB hub ever made - the machined-in-Lancashire Hope PRO4 with stainless steel bearings, an XD Driver and a 12mm x 148mm Boost through axle
  • SRAM Guide R 4-pot brakes are DH proven, and help make the 909 a viable enduro racing rig
  • More comfortable and substantial Whyte Lock-on V Grips - because these small details can really matter

Same as Whyte 905

  • For 2018, every Whyte 900-series bike has got even better thanks to its lower bottom bracket (297mm - was 305mm) and its even more relaxed geometry via its 65˚ head tube / 73˚ seat tube angle (was 66.5/74˚) and its larger volume tyres.
  • The Maxxis 27.5x2.8" Hi Roller II tyres, the front tyre's more supple 120tpi carcass and the 35mm rims deliver such a compliant ride with extra traction, flotation and cushioning, they
  • may well deliver all the rear suspension you'll ever require.
  • The tyres and rims are tubeless ready
  • Why upgrade to tubeless?
  • With its lighter weight custom tubing, its hydroformed alloy frame optimised for UK riding conditions and its progressive geometry to keep the rider centered and in control, this bike boasts the key features we love about Whyte mountain bikes - see blog
  • The 900-Series frame is built for the bike's one-by transmission, so it features Boost dropouts to take the longer, stronger 12x148mm axle appropriate for a rear hub with an 11 speed cassette
  • This frame design maximises the strength and integrity of the rear wheel by positioning the Boost hub flanges more outboard, thus reducing stress on the spokes
  • Whyte's new Drop.it dropper seatpost with smooth-operating bar-mounted Paddle Remote lever makes it super easy to adjust the saddle high enough for efficient climbing and low enough for epic downhilling

The benefits of Whyte's unique MTB trail geometry in their own words
'
We push the front wheel further in front of the rider at a slacker angle to the frame. This helps the steering ‘self correct', keeping you on track whether you're ripping down a rowdy mountain trail or a back road short cut turns out shady. By adding a long reach top tube we can team the stable steering with a super short, snap reacting stem for dodging traffic and potholes on the way to work or surfing sliding tyres down a black run descent. Add our own carefully selected handlebar shapes and you've got the perfect balanced of confident communication and connection in your hands.

Steering feel alone isn't enough to create a benchmark setting, award winning handling character though. We also drop the centre of gravity of our bikes as low as possible so they naturally glue themselves onto the ground through corners rather than leaving you perched and precarious. Because driving a barge is dull we keep the back ends super short whatever the wheel size to guarantee the hop and pop agility you need to bring the trail alive.'

Here's how Whyte describe the Whyte 909

'Our top-end trail hardtail is dripping with lust-worthy components such as SRAM's revolutionary Eagle GX groupset, Fox suspension and a Hope Pro 4 rear hub.

WTB STp i35 35mm wide TCS rims combined with Maxxis 2.8” high volume TR 3C compounds create more comfort, more grip and more fun!

The new 2018 909 brings ideas directly from our Whyte Enduro team, from the thicker V-Grips to the use of 170mm cranks to bring the rider 5mm closer to the ground without compromising pedal clearance.'
