Whyte 629 2018

The Whyte 629 is like the 529 trail hardtail mountain bike upgraded with a complete SRAM 1x11 drivetrain and a genuine RockShox Recon fork.

Upgrades from Whyte 529

  • Its SRAM NX transmission has all the German-engineered features that has made SRAM 1x11 transmissions so desirable - see blog.
  • The RockShox Recon RL Solo Air fork with Motion Control damper offers super reliable 120mm-travel suspension
  • Lighter weight Maxxis Tomahawk folding 29x2.35” front and Maxxis Crossmark II 29 x 2.25” folding rear tyres
  • These tyres and the WTB STp i25 29” rims are tubeless ready - why you should seriously consider upgrading to tubeless
  • The wheels run smoother on cartridge sealed bearings
  • SRAM Level hydraulic disc brakes make SRAM Guide DH brake technology available in a lighter weight format. Why you should consider a bike with high quality hydraulic disc brakes - the blog.

Same as Whyte 529

  • If you want to go faster, think big. Think a Whyte 29er hardtail mountain bike redesigned for 2018 with an SCR (Single Chain Ring) specific frame
  • With its lighter weight custom tubing, its hydroformed alloy frame optimised for UK riding conditions and its progressive geometry (66.5˚ head/76.5˚ seat tube angle in medium) to keep you centered and in control, the Whyte 529 boasts the key features we love about Whyte mountain bikes
  • The frame is made especially clean with Whyte's BBX (bottom bracket exit) internal cable routing, which is weather sealed, dropper-seat ready, and designed to facilitate easier cable replacement in years to come

The benefits of Whyte's unique MTB trail geometry in their own words
'
We push the front wheel further in front of the rider at a slacker angle to the frame. This helps the steering ‘self correct', keeping you on track whether you're ripping down a rowdy mountain trail or a back road short cut turns out shady. By adding a long reach top tube we can team the stable steering with a super short, snap reacting stem for dodging traffic and potholes on the way to work or surfing sliding tyres down a black run descent. Add our own carefully selected handlebar shapes and you've got the perfect balanced of confident communication and connection in your hands.

Steering feel alone isn't enough to create a benchmark setting, award winning handling character though. We also drop the centre of gravity of our bikes as low as possible so they naturally glue themselves onto the ground through corners rather than leaving you perched and precarious. Because driving a barge is dull we keep the back ends super short whatever the wheel size to guarantee the hop and pop agility you need to bring the trail alive.'

Add all the other features that make a Whyte mountain bike special, it's hard to imagine a better trail bike for the money. See our Why we're in love with Whyte mountain bikes blog

Here's how Whyte describe the Whyte 629 2018
'Our Alloy 29er hardtail frame is further developed for 2018 with a dedicated SCR frame. Not needing inner chainring clearance means our engineers are able to further reduce the length of the chainstays for improved agility and a more dynamic ride.

This new frame bristles with UK design features such as the "Get A Grip” seat post clamp system. This allows quick adjustment, fantastic weather proofing and a nice ergonomic lever which is easy to operate however cold your hands might be.

A full SRAM NX 1 by 11 is specced on the 629, along with a RockShox Recon RL fork to give this bike proper trail-slaying abilities.'
