As an environmentally aware business, Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op encourages the responsible disposal of out-of-commission electrical equipment such as lights and batteries. In line with the latest UK and European environmental legislation – the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directive – Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op has joined the Distributor Take-Back Scheme which contributes to the provision of improved recycling facilities.
RECYCLING ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT
All new electrical equipment is now marked with a crossed-out wheely bin symbol. This reminds us that we should dispose of ALL out-of-commission electrical equipment at our local recycling centre. That way, the materials used in the equipment manufacture can be recycled, and its contribution to potentially hazardous landfill waste is reduced.
HOW CAN I DISPOSE OF MY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT?
To make it easy for you to dispose of your used electical equipment every branch of Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op has an in-store recycling centre.
Alternatively, you can find your local waste portable battery recycling facility at www.recyclenow.co.uk
Most supermarkets and shops that sell batteries will also have collection bins for used batteries, and some town halls, libraries or schools may also have set up collection points.
