Giant Propel Advanced 1 Disc 2019 - Aero Road Bike

Speed is the name of the game with the Giant Propel Advanced 1 Disc. This is the Shimano Ultegra 2x11 STI equipped version of Giant's Propel aero road bike.

Key Features

  • Advanced-grade carbon composite frame
  • Advanced-grade carbon composite fork with alloy/composite hybrid OverDrive steerer
  • Shimano Ultegra 11-speed mechanical componentry
  • Shimano Ultegra hydraulic disc brakes
  • Giant P-A2 Aero wheelset with Giant Gavia Race 1 tubeless tyres

More Reasons to Buy the Giant Propel Advanced 1 Disc

  • Shares key design features of the bikes ridden by the Giant-Alpecin pro team.
  • Their mastery of carbon frame lay-up and design enables Giant to introduce a level of comfort, previously unheard of from an aero road bike.
  • AeroSystem Shaping Technology - data compiled from Computational Fluid Dynamics research and wind-tunnel tests was used by Giant's engineer's to optimize the shape of every Advanced Grade Composite Propel frameset tube to maximise aerodynamic efficiency.
  • Shimano Ultegra hydraulic disc brake offers powerful braking and sleek design
  • The Giant Vector composite seatpost continues the aerodynamic theme.
  • OverDrive - Giant’s tapered oversized fork steerer-tube design increases front-end stiffness and enhances steering performance.
  • Shimano's Ultegra STI 2x11 shifters and gear mechs are even closer to Dura-Ace level in terms of their smooth, slick and precise performance
  • Another upgrade UItegra riders particularly appreciate is that it offers a firmer shift than 105, delivering a quicker downshift onto the smaller ring under pressure

Tubeless tyres

Previously reserved for their £2K-plus Pro models, Giant believe so much in the benefits of going tubeless (such as a smoother ride and fewer flats) they have introduced tubeless tyres to most of their £1,000-plus bikes.

Aero Road Bikes

As you can guess from the name, an aero road bike is optimised to minimise speed-robbing air turbulence and thus maximise its speed potential. Crucially, unlike a dedicated aerodynamic time trial bike, a Giant Propel aero road bike handles fine in cross winds, so can be used as a general purpose road bike, be it for training, sportives, competition, or just to enjoy the blast of riding a precision-made lightweight carbon machine with superb speed potential.

Sharing key frame design features of the Propel bikes ridden by Team Giant-Alpecin, this bike is a strong contender for 'fastest road bike for the money'. Blistering speed potential aside, the quality that has most impressed riders about the Giant Propel Advanced's ride quality is the level of comfort, previously unheard of in an aero road bike.

Giant Advanced Carbon Composite Frameset

  • Every Advanced frameset is fabricated in-house by Giant, from its raw performance-grade Toray T-700 carbon filament to its final lacquered finish, to create a stiffer, lighter weight and more compliant ride.
  • Blending Toray T700 carbon filament and resin with vibration-absorbing particles helps maximise rider comfort and frame strength (hence the lifetime guarantee).
  • Modified Monocoque Construction: the front triangle is assembled and moulded as one continuous piece.
  • The main frame is then joined to the rear chainstays and seatstays in a secondary process.
  • This process eliminates the outermost woven composite sheet to reduce weight without affecting ride quality, strength or stiffness.

This aero road bike adds convincing evidence to the case that if you want to ride as fast as possible, reducing the bike's aerodynamic drag is even more important than reducing its weight. Add to that the comfort of knowing you have the advanced stopping power of the Shimano Ultegra, hydraulic disc brakes for more efficient braking and again for speed being able to brake later giving a further advantage!
