Giant Propel Advanced 1 2017
Sharing key frame design features of the Propel bikes ridden by Team Giant-Alpecin, this bike is a strong contender for 'fastest road bike for the money'.
Blistering speed potential aside, the quality that has most impressed cyclists about the Giant Propel Advanced's ride quality is the level of comfort, previously unheard of in an aero road bike.
Giant Propel key features
- Shares key design features of the bikes ridden by the Giant-Alpecin pro team.
- Their mastery of carbon frame lay-up and design enables Giant to introduce a level of comfort, previously unheard of from an aero road bike.
- AeroSystem Shaping Technology - data compiled from Computational Fluid Dynamics research and wind-tunnel tests was used by Giant's engineer's to optimize the shape of every Advanced Grade Composite Propel frameset tube to maximise aerodynamic efficiency.
- Giant SpeedControl SL Brakes - the front brake is mounted behind the fork crown, the rear behind the seatstays, to shield them from the wind. The brakes' trailing edges further reduce turbulence.
- The Giant Vector composite seatpost continues the aerodynamic theme.
- PowerCore - the massively oversized bottom bracket/chainstay area features a fully integrated, 86mm-wide bottom bracket to more efficiently convert your pedaling input into speed.
- OverDrive - Giant’s tapered oversized fork steerer-tube design increases front-end stiffness and enhances steering performance.
- The Shimano Ultegra 2x11 drivetrain (including chainset!) is a byword for smooth-shifting reliability.
Giant Advanced Carbon Composite Frameset
- Every Advanced frameset is fabricated in-house by Giant, from its raw performance-grade Toray T-700 carbon filament to its final lacquered finish, to create a stiffer, lighter weight and more compliant ride.
- Blending Toray T700 carbon filament and resin with vibration-absorbing particles helps maximise rider comfort and frame strength (hence the lifetime guarantee).
- Modified Monocoque Construction: the front triangle is assembled and moulded as one continuous piece.
- The main frame is then joined to the rear chainstays and seatstays in a secondary process.
- This process eliminates the outermost woven composite sheet to reduce weight without affecting ride quality, strength or stiffness.
'WHY WASTE ENERGY FIGHTING THE WIND? THIS AERO ROAD MACHINE MINIMISES DRAG - SO YOU CAN ACCELERATE AND SPRINT EVEN FASTER.
Proven aero performance, sharp yet stable handling and one of the lightest frames in its category - you get it all with Propel Advanced. Engineered with AeroSystem Shaping Technology and Advanced-grade composite, this race-ready machine leaves the competition behind. The lightweight, easily adjustable Vector composite seatpost minimises drag and frame technologies including the OverDrive steerer tube and PowerCore bottom bracket deliver sharp handling and pedalling efficiency for the perfect one-two punch at the finish line.'
