This unique German machine combines a racing-geometry aluminium frame (full touring equipped) and dual suspension: i.e. you get a best-of-all-worlds combination of agility, practicality and comfort thats a pure delight to ride.
This is how manufacturers Riese and Muller (of Birdy folder fame) describe their Delite.
'Full Suspension Touring Bike.
The Delite Black is the first full suspension bike to be made specifically with the needs of cyclo-tourists in mind. Lightweight, full suspension, enjoyable riding qualities and low rolling resistance all features of the Delite series combine with the Delite Blacks remit to be a durable touring bike: stiff frame, extremely stable rear carrier and a comfortable riding position.
The heart of the bike is its frame: the wall strength and diameter of the tubing have been dramatically increased and the rear swing arm has been given added stiffness. Riese and Muller have considered the specific requirements needed for a full suspension touring bike right down to the minutest detail: the swing arm pivot point of the Delite Black is positioned so that the transmission with its smaller chainrings is totally independent of the suspension. Annoying bobbing while riding out of the saddle is unknown on the Delite Black and, for the first time ever, cyclo-tourists have the option of enjoying suspension without having to make any compromises.
The frame-mounted rear carrier fitting aesthetically with the rest of the frame, has been redesigned to cope with the demands of longer touring holidays with luggage. An interesting feature is the lower tube section for taking rear panniers. This reduces the centre of gravity when the bike is fully laden, improving handling enormously especially at low speed and while cornering.
A low rider rack on the suspension forks enables luggage to be sensibly distributed on the bike. As regards components, Riese and Muller have continued in the same vein: brakes and gears have been specified to cope with extreme conditions; for long uphills adequately low gearing has been considered, and for downhill the Shimano Deore XT 27 speed set up is well equipped for speed.
The integrated dropout
An innovative dropout connects the hub with the rear swing arm. The dropout integrates mountings for the mudguard, the kickstand, the anti-twisting screws for the axle on the hub gear, and the rear wheel itself. In addition, theres the option of mounting a disc brake.
The Delite frames are tested to EFBe-Standards - the rigorous German safety tests.'
