Built on Cannondale's super light (3.7lb) CAAD 3 mountain bike frame painted a very tasty matt black and shod with 26 x 1” Hutchinson slick tyres, this Bad Boy is very fast, very tough and very stealth. Cannondale subscribe to the notion that mountain bikes and suspension are made for one another. This means that an MTB with a rigid fork is essentially a street bike - hence the 26 x 1''-wheeled Bad Boy, which just happens to be our best selling year 2001 bike this autumn (written November 2000). With such skinny tyres, why not just buy a hybrid or road bike you may well ask? The advantage of this design is that 26" wheels with their shorter spokes are intrinsically stronger than 700c road wheels. The other advantage is versatility. Being built on a 'standard' MTB frame, the Bad Boy has heaps of tyre clearance sufficient to fit 26 x 2"-wide knobblies should you ever fancy an off road weekend- a feat no 700c hybrid can perform. Highlights * Cannondale CAAD3 frame * PowerPyramid - the frame's downtube tapers from a massively oversized 56mm diameter where it meets the bottom bracket to a thicker-walled 40mm diameter where it meets the head tube. The result: flex-free, goes-where-you-point-it performance you'll appreciate every time you ride uphill or accelerate on the flat. * Machined rims with Hutchinson slick tyres * 27-speed Shimano transmission with XT rear gear * Black stealth look making this perhaps the ultimate messenger bike
