Hi everyone!
I am 21 years old and a 4th-year student at the University of Edinburgh studying mechanical engineering whilst also working as a freelance social media content producer. It is with this work that I have become involved with the Bike Coop, creating content for their Instagram channel. As some of the posts have a focus on showcasing cycling lifestyle and the community itself I thought it would be good to properly introduce myself to followers of the page.
I have been intrinsically involved with cycling since I was 10 years old - inspired after watching ‘The Clan’ stunt bike team perform in my local town. Since then I began building jumps down my driveway and entering local MTB races before transitioning to a more road-orientated focus over the last couple of years. Subsequent to joining the cycling club at University I joined a Scottish team, racing on the road circuit at a national level and have also joined a Top-10-in-the-world-ranked Zwift team, a hobby I picked up during last years first lockdown.
I still love off-road riding and exploration, and there is plenty of it available in the quiet countryside of Galloway where I live when not at university. Most recently I have been using the gravel bike as my instrument of choice for investigating new trails and map contours, its ability to handle some off-road hits and still pedal with great efficiency has made it a great companion as I embark on 100km adventure rides. I haven’t neglected my MTB heritage though, I still make it a priority to attend our ritual of Thursday Night MTB rides in Dalbeattie. I must admit I do so by borrowing my Dad’s Whyte T-130 - aren’t Dads great?
That’s it from me - for now! After sharing this background info you’ll probably be able to spot the posts I have done for the Bike Coop over the last few months, but to make it even easier in future I’ll be signing off the personal posts with my initials ‘LM’.
All the best for now, and happy riding.
