The GSD P00 Gen 3 is Tern's most capable family cargo bike yet. It carries more, goes further, and fits a wider range of riders than the previous generation, all while staying close to the length of a regular bike.
If you've been put off electric cargo bikes by their sheer bulk, the GSD is worth a proper look.
What's changed in Gen 3
The frame has been re-engineered to handle a maximum gross vehicle weight of 210kg. That's the bike, the rider, cargo, a child seat, panniers, the lot. The rear rack alone is rated to 100kg, and the kickstand locks solid with integrated foot extensions so loading up doesn't turn into a balancing act.
The cockpit adjusts without tools to suit riders from 150cm to 200cm, with a rider weight limit of 130kg. For households where more than one person rides the bike, that matters.
Motor, battery, and range
The Bosch Cargo Line motor produces up to 85Nm of torque with 400% support, which is the kind of output that makes a fully loaded school run feel manageable rather than heroic. It runs on the Bosch Smart System, controlled via the Purion 200 unit, with eBike lock, ride customisation, and navigation built in.
The GSD P00 is dual-battery compatible. With both batteries fitted, range extends to up to 196km. For daily use in a UK city or town, that means charging becomes an occasional task rather than a nightly one.
Add the optional ConnectModule and you get Smart Alarm and GPS tracking, useful if the bike is parked outside regularly.
Drivetrain and brakes
The Gates Carbon Belt Drive replaces a conventional chain. No oil, no stretching, no degreasing. It's quieter and significantly lower maintenance, which counts for a lot on a bike that's used daily.
Gear shifting is handled by an Enviolo Heavy Duty internally geared hub with a 380% gear range and a twist shifter. There are no external gears to bash or adjust, and the shifting works whether you're moving or stationary.
Stopping is via Magura 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes at both ends, sized for the weight this bike carries.
Safety and certification
The GSD P00 is UL 2849-certified and has been independently tested to meet DIN 79010, the German cargo bike safety standard. For a bike carrying children or significant loads, that level of independent verification is worth knowing about.

Who this bike suits
The Tern GSD P00 Gen 3 is built for families or individuals who need to move people and loads regularly without a car. Two passengers, weekly shopping, nursery runs, school drops, all on one bike. The midnight blue finish is one of the sharper colourways in the current GSD range.
It's a substantial bike and a significant purchase.
