The Brompton Electric P Line is a titanium folding electric bike with a rear hub motor, 345Wh battery, and four gears. It folds to the same compact size as a standard Brompton, rolls on its own wheels when folded, and fits under a desk or in a train luggage rack.
If you need a portable electric bike in the UK that genuinely works as part of a mixed commute (cycling, train, walking), this is what Brompton have built it for.
Features:
- Brompton e-Motiq rear hub motor with torque sensor
- 345Wh removable battery, up to 90 km range
- 4 speed gears, 3 power modes
- Titanium rear frame, carbon fork, aluminium handlebar support and crank set
- SuperRoll folded rolling system (Shopper Mode and Suitcase Mode)
- Over-the-air software updates
- Self-aligning hinge clamps for faster folding
The e-Motiq system
The Brompton e-Motiq system is new for this generation. It uses a torque sensor to match motor output to how hard you're pedalling, so the assist feels proportional rather than on/off. Over your first 100 km the system learns your riding style, then refines itself every 6 km after that, adjusting range predictions and power delivery to suit you. Three power modes give you control over how much help you're getting, and Start Assist lets you pull away from junctions without stamping on the pedals.
The battery clicks out in seconds for charging indoors, and over-the-air updates keep the system current without trips to a dealer.
Folded portability
This is where the Brompton Electric P Line earns its keep. The fold locks together and rolls on built-in wheels, either upright (Shopper Mode, seatpost up) or on its side (Suitcase Mode, seatpost down). The optional Roller Frame adds four wheels at the base and shifts the centre of gravity, making it even easier to pull through stations and across platforms. For a lightweight folding electric bike, the rolling system makes a real difference when you're covering ground on foot between rides.
The colour
Pacific Lacquer is a rich blue with a gloss lacquer finish. The Brompton P Line in Pacific Lacquer looks sharp, and the lacquer gives it more depth than a standard paint. If you've seen it listed as a blue lacquer Brompton Electric, this is the one.
Who it suits
The 4 speed folding e-bike setup handles city commutes well, including hills. Four gears and three power modes give enough range for steep gradients and flats alike. The 90 km battery range covers a week of shorter commutes comfortably. As the best compact e-bike for commuting by train, bus, or mixed transport, the P Line is hard to beat because it genuinely folds small enough to be practical.
It also works for riders with limited storage at home. A folded Brompton fits in a cupboard or behind a sofa.
Before you buy
A Brompton rides differently to a full-size bike. The small wheels are nimble but more sensitive to potholes and rough surfaces. If your commute is mostly smooth tarmac and cycle paths, that's fine. If it's rutted country lanes, a full-size e-bike would be more comfortable.
The lightweight e-folding bike format means compromises on cargo capacity too. You can carry a bag on the front block, but heavy loads change the handling.
