A Brompton that folds to the same compact size as a regular one, but with a motor to take the sting out of hills and headwinds. That's the pitch for the Brompton Electric P Line, and in practice, it delivers.
The bit that matters: it still folds small
Most electric folding bikes compromise on the fold. They're too heavy, too bulky, or the battery sticks out awkwardly. The Brompton Electric P Line folds down properly, rolls on its own wheels when folded (upright in Shopper Mode, on its side in Suitcase Mode), and fits under a desk or in a train luggage rack. If you're commuting by train, that's the whole point. A folding e-bike for train commuters is useless if it doesn't fold small enough to carry on board without blocking the doors.
The e-Motiq motor
New for this generation. A rear hub motor with a torque sensor that matches power to how hard you're pedalling, so the assist feels smooth rather than jerky. Over your first 100km the system learns your riding style, then refines itself every 6km after that. Three power modes, and Start Assist for pulling away from junctions without stamping on the pedals.
The 345Wh battery clicks out in seconds for indoor charging and gives up to 90km range, enough for a week of shorter commutes. Over-the-air software updates keep everything current.
The build
Titanium rear frame, carbon fork, aluminium handlebar support and crankset. Self-aligning hinge clamps speed up the fold. The Brompton P Line Cloud Metallic finish is a pale, pearlescent grey that looks clean and doesn't show fingerprints the way darker colours can.

Worth knowing before you buy
A Brompton rides differently to a full-size bike. Small wheels are nimble but more sensitive to potholes. If your commute is mostly smooth tarmac and cycle paths, you'll be fine. Rutted country lanes would suit a larger-wheeled e-bike better.
The 4-speed gearing handles city riding and moderate hills well. If you're regularly climbing steep gradients, the combination of motor assist and four gears covers it, but test-ride one first if you're unsure.
