Frame: let’s face it, you’re not going to get a full carbon frame in this price bracket. But a lightweight aluminium will give you a durable and efficient bike.
Gearing: you’ll want to look for a bike with good quality componentry (such as well known brand, Shimano). Because it’s likely you’ll be riding on a variety of flat and hilly routes, go for something with a wide spread of gears (from one to twenty-one or more).
Practicality: depending on when, where and how often you plan to ride, you might want to consider things like mudguard and pannier rack compatibility. Suspension won’t be standard in all bikes but if you plan to ride on some slightly rough terrain, a bike with front suspension it’s definitely something you’ll want to consider (although it will add some weight).
