Tubular, the choice of many pros, and for good reason.
While more and more teams experiment with tubeless setups, plenty of wheel manufacturers have quietly stepped back from tubular development altogether. FFWD haven't. Their close relationships with professional teams have made one thing clear: tubular wheels remain the preferred choice at the sharp end of the peloton, and the Fast Forward RYOT55 exists because of that conviction.
The development story behind this wheelset is worth knowing. FFWD worked directly with Team Direct Énergie and classics specialist Niki Terpstra, following them through the demands of the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix. The brief was straightforward: build a set that performs on any terrain, in any condition. What came out of that process is the RYOT55 tubular wheels, carrying the 'Team Tech' label, meaning every design decision traces back to real-world feedback and wind tunnel testing.
The 55mm deep-section carbon wheelset rim profile was developed alongside FFWD's LAW aero testing programme, and the result is a shape optimised for 25mm tyres as a minimum, with full compatibility for 28mm. Both sizes get a smooth aerodynamic transition between tyre and rim, which matters when you're pushing into a headwind or trying to hold speed through a corner. The wider rim compatibility also gives riders flexibility on tougher days, cobbled sportives included.
Aesthetically, the RYOT55 sits within FFWD's updated range, carrying the hexagonal decal design drawn from the SynergySix profile. All models come in black, but the Team Tech tubular disc brake wheels get white logos for race visibility, a small detail that looks sharp in the bunch.
For mechanics and riders alike, durability is non-negotiable at this level. That's why these high-end carbon road wheels are only available with DT Swiss 240 hubs, widely regarded as the benchmark for reliability and serviceability among performance cycling wheels. If you're looking at professional road wheels for sale and want something that won't need babying, the DT240 is the right answer.
