The Specialized Turbo Vado Evo 3 5.0 takes the Vado 3 platform and makes it rougher-road capable.
Same motor, same battery, but with wider 2.6" all-terrain tyres and geometry tuned for riders who don't want to stick to tarmac. If your commute includes towpaths, gravel tracks, or potholed back roads, the Vado Evo is the version to look at.
The motor system comes from Specialized's Levo 4 mountain bike line, so power delivery responds to your pedalling input rather than arriving in a sudden lump. The 840Wh battery gives up to 150 km range, which for most UK riders means several days of commuting or a proper full-day ride at the weekend.

Vado Evo vs standard Vado 3
The main difference is the tyres and the ride they give you. The standard Turbo Vado 3 5.0 runs 2.3" Infinity touring tyres, good for roads and cycle paths. The Vado Evo runs 2.6" Hemisphere tyres with more grip and cushion on loose or broken surfaces. If you're riding canal paths, farm tracks, or gravelly shortcuts through parks, the Evo handles that confidently where the standard Vado would feel twitchy.
Both share the same motor, battery, cockpit, and security setup. So the choice comes down to where you'll ride most.
Who it suits
The Specialized Vado Evo works well for commuters whose route isn't all smooth tarmac, riders who want one bike for roads and bridleways, and anyone who values comfort on longer mixed-surface rides. The wider tyres absorb more from rough ground, which your wrists and lower back will notice on a 15-mile commute. As a hybrid e-bike in the UK market, it sits between a pure commuter and an e-mountain bike.
If you're after the best long-range e-bike in the UK for mixed terrain rather than pure road use, the Turbo Vado 3 Evo 5.0 is a strong option at this price point.
Security
Turbo System Lock disables the motor when you park up. Built-in Apple Find My lets you track the bike through your iPhone. Both are integrated from the factory on this Specialized electric bike.
The colour
This one comes in Gloss Amethyst Frost Metallic, a deep purple with a metallic finish. It catches the light well and looks distinct from the usual black or grey e-bikes you see locked up outside offices.
Before you buy
This is a full-size, big-battery e-bike with proper weight. Carrying it up flights of stairs regularly isn't ideal. And while the Evo handles rough ground well, it's still a hybrid, not a mountain bike. Steep, muddy singletrack isn't its territory.
Specialized bikes in the UK have built a loyal commuter following, and the Vado Evo range is a big part of that. The Turbo Vado 3 Evo 5.0 is available here at Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op.
