If you ride an e-mountain bike and carry a spare battery, you'll know the problem: most backpacks weren't built with that in mind.
Weight sits wrong, bulk catches on branches, and a spare cell rattling around in the main compartment is nobody's idea of fun. The EVOC FR Trail E-Ride 20 sorts this out properly.
It's one of the more thoughtfully designed EVOC bike backpacks available right now, built around the specific reality of e-MTB riding rather than just adapted from a regular trail pack.
What makes it different from a standard trail packThe central battery compartment is the headline feature, and it earns its keep. Dimensions of 485 × 90 × 90 mm accommodate most common spare e-bike batteries, with a padded interior and a secure fixing system so nothing shifts mid-trail. There's also a strap fastening for an e-bike charger, which means you can head out for a long day and bring everything you need without resorting to a separate bag or stuffing cables into a jacket pocket.
Balance matters on technical terrain. Positioning the battery centrally, close to your back, keeps the weight where it should be rather than pulling you rearward on steep climbs or tricky descents.
Protection you can rely onThe LiteShield Back Plus protector runs the full length of the back panel and absorbs 95% of impact force in testing. It's a proper certified protector, not a foam layer with a protector label on it. If you do take a hit and the protector needs replacing, EVOC's free crash replacement service covers it.
Storage and organisationThe FR Trail E-Ride 20 carries 20 litres in total, split across compartments that each have a clear purpose:
- Tool compartment for your multi-tool, tyre levers, and tubes
- Action cam compartment with soft fleece lining to protect screens and lenses
- Phone pocket, sunglasses pocket, and key holder so small items stay accessible
- Hydration system compartment compatible with a standard reservoir (reservoir sold separately)
There's also an integrated rain cover and a helmet carry system, both of which are worth having if you ride in the UK year-round and want a bag that covers its own bases in wet weather.
Fit and comfortThe pack weighs 1,550 g, which is reasonable given what it carries. Dimensions are 27 cm × 56 cm × 14 cm. The Airo Flex back system creates an air channel between the pack and your back, which helps on longer climbs when heat builds up. It's worth trying the fit before committing if you can, particularly if you're between sizes or have a shorter torso.
What it's made fromThe shell is 50% virgin polyester and 50% recycled polyester, and the pack is made from recyclable materials overall. The back protector uses 100% EPP (expanded polypropylene).
Who this suitsThe EVOC FR Trail E-Ride 20 makes sense if you're riding an e-MTB and regularly carry a spare battery, whether that's for longer days in the hills, bikepacking-style rides, or simply as insurance on trails far from a charge point. It works equally well as a do-it-all trail pack if you're not carrying a battery but want the back protection and organised storage on technical UK terrain.
It's less suited to lightweight XC riders who want to shave every gram, or to road and gravel riding where a protector backpack would be overkill.
