The hybrid bike is, for many riders, a best-of-all-worlds bicycle. Commuter/hybrids borrow features from mountain bikes and road bikes to varying degrees so they come in many styles.
Speed commuters are flat-bar road bikes that match mountain bike handlebars and control levers with road bike wheels and frames. More advanced models come with disc brakes.
Comfort hybrids have wider tyres, higher bars and perhaps mudguards and rack. A comfort hybrid can be a modern machine with an alloy frame and suspension fork or it could be built on more traditional lines, as epitomised by Pashley Cycles.
Rugged hybrids combine wide 700c tyres, suspension forks and either V-brakes or disc brakes, which make these all-purpose bikes equally fit for street and light trail riding.
Getting even more specialist, we also include folding bikes and electric bikes under the commuter/hybrid bike banner.
With so many styles to choose from here, we're pretty confident that Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op can supply at least one commuter-hybrid bike that will be just right for you.
