Whyte Somerset Women's

The Somerset is the first compact frame bike in Whytes RD-7 range of 'Sports Road/Commuter Disc' AKA Commuter Road Bikes.

Compact fit
With its shorter reach to the handlebars and its extra stepover height, the Somerset is primarily designed for women. However, Whyte describe this bike as 'Compact-Fit' rather than 'ladies' to underline the fact that it could be the perfect bike for shorter guys too.

RD-7 Commuter Road Bikes
Building the frame with custom drawn hydroformed tubing and specifying an alloy fork with a tapered steerer ensures this bike is as lightweight as a similar-priced dedicated road bike.

Full mudguard and rack compatibility means that this road bike could easily double as a fast touring / commuting / everyday bike.

The Whyte Somerset therefore offers much of the versatility that makes cross bikes so attractive. The RD7 Road Disc Bike difference is that Whyte have built the Somerset frame to classic road bike geometry (72.5 degree head angle and 74 degree seat tube angle in 51cm size) to create a bike with true road bike fast-steering agility and acceleration potential.

Chainstay disc brake mounts
The disc brake is chainstay-mounted, rather than conventional seatstay-mounted. This innovation enables Whyte to build a more comfortable frame with slimmer, more vertically compliant seat stays.

Disc Brakes
Moving the brakes from the mud and rain-attracting wheel rims to the relatively clean hubs makes for an improvement in the brakes’ all-weather all-conditions performance. Disc brake pads are much harder so they last much longer. Disc brakes tend to need far less maintenance compared with rim brakes because they don't require such frequent adjustment to compensate for brake pad wear. The wheel rims should also last much longer now that they are no longer being worn down by the brake pads.

Mechanical Disc Brakes
Being cable operated, like conventional rim brakes, mechanical disc brakes can be easier to work on than hydraulics.

Versatile
Full mudguard and rack compatibility means the Whyte Somerset could easily double as a fast touring / commuting / everyday bike.

Stronger Wheels
Whyte deep section rims are lightweight, strong and contribute to the bicycle's authentic road bike looks.

Shimano Sora STI transmission
Shimano Sora Dual Control STI shifters integrate the gear levers with the brake levers. STI allows you to shift through the gears without taking your hands off the brake hoods, so you experience no loss of control or momentum when you change gear.

With its 32/48 chainset and its 11-34 cassette, the Whyte Somerset offers a wider gear range than a regular road bike, to help 'flatten' steeper climbs.

Aluminium Custom Tubing
The premium grade 6061 aluminium Whyte use has been specially developed to allow for hydro-forming (where hot oil is pumped through the tube at pressure to fine-tune its profile).

Every tubes is custom drawn to Whyte's own specifications. This translates into thinner tube butting profiles over the entire length of the tube, and means that for the same strength, stiffness and fatigue characteristics, Whyte can engineer a lighter chassis.

Whyte hydro-formed aluminium frame designs concentrate on creating the most efficient shapes for the chassis, whilst retaining an elegant overall design profile. Take the seatstays and chainstays. As well as being internally butted to reduce weight, the stays are shaped to enhance comfort and maximise tyre and mud clearance.

'Whyte Somerset
The Somerset's compact geometry makes for a more comfortable female-focused fit. Combined with lightweight aluminium tubing and an 18spd Shimano drivetrain you have a bike that loves the hills.

A strong alloy 6061 frame, with mudguard and rack eyelets, combined with deep section RD-7 wheels and disc brakes will give years of reliable all-season performance.

Ergonomic Wing handlebar, combined with tuned bar width and stem length make for a comfortable fit.
