Whyte S-150C Works 2018

'Works' means, 'as ridden by Whyte's pro team', so you can be confident this 150mm-travel carbon-frame Whyte T-150C full-suspension trail enduro rig works very well.

This claim was borne out in convincing fashion when Whyte team rider Martyn Brookes won the 2017 UK Enduro National Championship on his Whyte S-150C Works.

Upgrades from Whyte S-150C RS

  • Whyte Tubeless carbon wheel rims on Hope Pro 4 rims really are the best of British
  • Lighter weight RCT3 version of the RockShox Pike fork
  • Lighter weight SRAM XX1 Eagle drivetrain
  • 800mm Race Face carbon bars on 40/50mm stem

Same as Whyte S-150C RS

The new-for-2018 S-150 longer travel Whyte 29er full suspension mountain bike is an enduro race-capable trail bike.

One look at the S-150 frame and you're immediately struck by its clean looks. The RockShox shock placement and the SRAM Eagle 34t chainset ensure masses of mud clearance. The short seat tube lets you get low on downhills via the dropper seat tube.

As ever from Whyte, the S-150 stands out for its geometry. The slack 65.6 degrees head tube angle, the low 335mm bottom bottom bracket and the long top tube counter-balanced by the super-wide bars and 40/50mm stem deliver Whyte's trademark engaging, communicative ride quality that delivers snappy yet stable handling and glues the Maxxis High Roller tyres to the ground - at least till you want to get airborne.

If you're still not sure whether you want 27.5 or 29" tyres, the Whyte S-150 comes fitted with 29 inchers but is built with clearance to take 27.5 x 2.8" plus-size rubber, making it relatively easy to switch wheels to match the terrain.

  • Whyte SCR Single Chain Ring specific frame
  • Light, stiff carbon mainframe
  • Its SCS Symmetrical Chain Stays and its wider main pivot create an even stronger and more reliably flex-resistant rig
  • SCR translates to you, the rider, as improved cornering confidence and enhanced suspension performance
  • The frame's Boost dropouts take a longer, stronger 12x148mm axle appropriate for a rear hub with an 12 speed cassette
  • The Whyte exclusive 42mm offset fork (not RockShox's usual 51mm) makes the steering calmer and smoother over rough terrain
  • The SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain delivers 1x12 gear shifting via a 10-50 cassette, making this the widest range one-by transmission to date. The resulting 500% difference between top and bottom gear (compared with SRAM's previous best 420% 10-42 cassette) gives you the wings to soar high
  • Why you want a one-by drivetrain
  • SRAM's Guide disc brakes matches the SRAM gearing in terms of assured performance

The benefits of Whyte's unique MTB trail geometry in their own words
'
We push the front wheel further in front of the rider at a slacker angle to the frame. This helps the steering ‘self correct', keeping you on track whether you're ripping down a rowdy mountain trail or a back road short cut turns out shady. By adding a long reach top tube we can team the stable steering with a super short, snap reacting stem for dodging traffic and potholes on the way to work or surfing sliding tyres down a black run descent. Add our own carefully selected handlebar shapes and you've got the perfect balanced of confident communication and connection in your hands.

Steering feel alone isn't enough to create a benchmark setting, award winning handling character though. We also drop the centre of gravity of our bikes as low as possible so they naturally glue themselves onto the ground through corners rather than leaving you perched and precarious. Because driving a barge is dull we keep the back ends super short whatever the wheel size to guarantee the hop and pop agility you need to bring the trail alive.'

Here's how Whyte describe the S-150C Works 2018

'Our Whyte Enduro team have a secret weapon in 2018 - the S-150 Works is their "out the box” race bike for the more all-round events. Already there have been wins at the Master's National Championships and we are sure this is just the beginning for this great all-round bike.

There is a wish list spec on the Works, but standouts must include the 30mm hookless Whyte carbon rims hand laced onto Hope Pro4 hubs, the XX1 Reverb, under the bar paddle lever and the RockShox suspension.

S stands for Switch - the ability to fit 650b wheels with 2.8” tyres and still have UK levels mud clearance.

For 2018 Whyte will launch wheel kits that are ready to switch into your bike in the time it takes to go back to your car and change the Eagle cassette. The Carbon 35mm hookless rims are even colour matched to the Works paint finish.'
