Whyte S-150C RS 2018

Whyte tell us that this carbon frame / Pike fork version of the S-150C is the fastest trail bike they have ever made.

This claim was borne out in convincing fashion when Whyte team rider Martyn Brookes won the 2017 UK Enduro National Championship on the S-Works version of the Whyte S-150C.

Upgrades from Whyte S-150 S

  • Stiffer, lighter weight carbon frame
  • SRAM Pike RC 150mm-travel fork with 140mm offset, custom made for Whyte
  • SRAM Guide RS 4-pot brakes are DH proven, making the S-150C RS a viable enduro racing rig

Same as Whyte S-150 S

The new-for-2018 S-150 longer travel Whyte 29er full suspension mountain bike is an enduro race-capable trail bike, SRAM GX Eagle 1x12 equipped.

One look at the S-150 frame and you're immediately struck by its clean looks. The RockShox shock placement and the SRAM Eagle GX chainset's tiny 32t ring ensure masses of mud clearance.

As ever from Whyte, the S-150 stands out for its geometry. The slack 65.6 degrees head tube angle, low 335mm bottom bottom bracket and the long top tube counter-balanced by the 760/780mm bars and 40/50mm stem deliver Whyte's trademark engaging, communicative ride quality that delivers snappy yet stable handling and glues the Maxxis High Roller tyres to the ground - at least till you want to get airborne. In other words, his bike boasts the key features we love about Whyte mountain bikes - see blog

If you're still not sure whether you want 27.5 or 29" tyres, the Whyte S-150 comes fitted with 29 inchers but is built with clearance to take 27.5 x 2.8" plus-size rubber, making it relatively easy to switch wheels to match the terrain

  • The Whyte SCR frame is Single Chain Ring specific
  • Its SCS Symmetrical Chain Stays and its wider main pivot create an even stronger and more reliably flex-resistant rig
  • SCR translates to you, the rider, as improved cornering confidence and enhanced suspension performance
  • The frame's Boost dropouts take a longer, stronger 12x148mm axle appropriate for a rear hub with an 12 speed cassette
  • Whyte's exclusive 42mm offset fork (not RockShox's usual 51mm offset) makes the steering calmer and smoother over rough terrain
  • The SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain delivers 1x12 gear shifting via a 10-50 cassette, making this the widest range one-by transmission to date. The resulting 500% difference between top and bottom gear (compared with SRAM's previous best 420% 10-42 cassette) gives you the wings to soar high
  • Why you want a one-by drivetrain

The benefits of Whyte's unique MTB trail geometry in their own words
'
We push the front wheel further in front of the rider at a slacker angle to the frame. This helps the steering ‘self correct', keeping you on track whether you're ripping down a rowdy mountain trail or a back road short cut turns out shady. By adding a long reach top tube we can team the stable steering with a super short, snap reacting stem for dodging traffic and potholes on the way to work or surfing sliding tyres down a black run descent. Add our own carefully selected handlebar shapes and you've got the perfect balanced of confident communication and connection in your hands.

Steering feel alone isn't enough to create a benchmark setting, award winning handling character though. We also drop the centre of gravity of our bikes as low as possible so they naturally glue themselves onto the ground through corners rather than leaving you perched and precarious. Because driving a barge is dull we keep the back ends super short whatever the wheel size to guarantee the hop and pop agility you need to bring the trail alive.'

Here's how Whyte describe the S-150C RS

'With its all-new sculpted carbon front triangle the RS certainly looks the part. Add Eagle GX, the brand new Rockshox Pike and Deluxe suspension and you've got the fastest trail bike we've ever made.

S stands for Switch - the ability to fit 650b wheels with 2.8” tyres and still have UK levels mud clearance. For 2018 Whyte will launch wheel kits that are ready to switch into your bike in the time it takes to go back to your car and change the Eagle cassette. There's a choice of Carbon or Alloy wheel kits.

Maxxis 3C compound is peerless in the level of front end grip it provides. The 29mm wide rims create a stable bead platform for these tyres so you can push them right to the limit.'
