Product Details

Whyte S-120C R 2019

The new-for-2019 S-120 shorter travel Whyte 29er full suspension mountain bike is an enduro race-capable trail bike, SRAM NX Eagle 1x12 equipped.

From the multi-award-winning S-150 suspension system and applies it to this immensely capable new 120mm platform.

As ever from Whyte, the S-120 stands out for its geometry. The slack 65.6 degrees head tube angle, low 340mm bottom bottom bracket and the long top tube counter-balanced by the 780mm bars and 40mm stem deliver Whyte's trademark engaging, communicative ride quality that delivers snappy yet stable handling and glues the Maxxis tyres to the ground - at least till you want to get airborne. In other words, his bike boasts the key features we love about Whyte mountain bikes - see blog

If you're still not sure whether you want 27.5 or 29" tyres, the Whyte S-120 comes fitted with 29 inchers but is built with clearance to take 27.5 x 2.8" plus-size rubber, making it relatively easy to switch wheels to match the terrain

  • Its SCS Symmetrical Chain Stays and its wider main pivot create an even stronger and more reliably flex-resistant rig
  • SCR translates to you, the rider, as improved cornering confidence and enhanced suspension performance
  • The frame's Boost dropouts take the longer, stronger 12x148mm axle appropriate for a rear hub with an 12 speed cassette
  • The SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain delivers 1x12 gear shifting via a 10-50 cassette, making this the widest range one-by transmission to date. The resulting 500% difference between top and bottom gear (compared with SRAM's previous best 420% 10-42 cassette) gives you the wings to soar high
  • Why you want a one-by drivetrain
  • SRAM Guide T, 4 Pot disc brakes matches the SRAM gearing in terms of assured performance

The benefits of Whyte's unique MTB trail geometry in their own words
'
We push the front wheel further in front of the rider at a slacker angle to the frame. This helps the steering ‘self correct’, keeping you on track whether you’re ripping down a rowdy mountain trail or a back road short cut turns out shady. By adding a long reach top tube we can team the stable steering with a super short, snap reacting stem for dodging traffic and potholes on the way to work or surfing sliding tyres down a black run descent. Add our own carefully selected handlebar shapes and you’ve got the perfect balanced of confident communication and connection in your hands.

Steering feel alone isn’t enough to create a benchmark setting, award winning handling character though. We also drop the centre of gravity of our bikes as low as possible so they naturally glue themselves onto the ground through corners rather than leaving you perched and precarious. Because driving a barge is dull we keep the back ends super short whatever the wheel size to guarantee the hop and pop agility you need to bring the trail alive.'

Here's how Whyte describe the S-120

Our brand-new S-120 frame takes everything we learnt from developing the multi-award-winning S-150 suspension system and applies it to this immensely capable new 120mm platform.

The S-120 is a perfect replacement for the iconic T129, which gave Whyte its 1st Bike Of The Year award. Designed to be an all-round XC/Trail bike from epic marathons to a flat our blast down your local single track, this bike will allow you to do it all.
