Product Description

Whyte Ridgeway 2018

Equally capable on dirt roads and tarmac, the Ridgeway is the first bike in Whyte's All-Terrain range of hydraulic disc brake all-purpose hybrid bikes.

Whyte All Terrain Bike Overview
Whyte All Terrain Bikes borrows the stand-out feature of their multi award-winning mountain bikes - the frame geometry. The Ridgeway's 73.5 degree seat tube angle makes for sprightly climbing. The shallow 69 degree head tube angle (in medium size) and low centre of gravity make for assured control on slippery downhills.

The suspension forks, riser handlebars, hydraulic disc brakes and triple chainset gearing help create a bicycle that can cope with the widest range of conditions. Its Schwalbe SILENTO K-Guard 700 x 37c tyres (with Kevlar puncture-resistant belts) are in-between road and mountain bike width, so they work well on any surface. Similarly, the SunTour suspension fork's 63mm travel (half as much as a typical mountain bike) offers light bump cushioning without being over-burly. What's more, you can lock out the suspension for bob-free climbs.

Perhaps best of all, the Ridgeway comes fitted with hydraulic disc brakes from market leader Tektro to ensure reliable, low maintenance performance. Why you should consider a bike with high quality hydraulic disc brakes - visit our blog

Put it all together and you have a bike that you can confidently enjoy whether you're on the road, an unpaved cycle track or the less technical sections of your local trail centre.

If you want one bicycle that does it all, a Whyte's All Terrain bike like the Ridgeway is a great place to start.

Whyte Custom-drawn Tubing
Every Whyte aluminium frame is built with custom drawn tubes. This means that Whyte go to the expense of spec'ing a different tube set for each frame size. Apparently, it’s normal practice for bike companies to save money by using the same tube set for every size. This means that a butted tubeset will have to be designed around the smallest frame size. Say the smallest frame size is 16”. When the tubes are cut to size, they will have a short thicker-walled section at each end as you would expect from butted tubes. When the same tube set is used to create a 21” frame a much larger proportion of the tube will be thick walled. That’s why large frames are often disproportionately heavier than they need be. Custom tubing is Whyte's guarantee that the frame will be as light as possible in every size.

Mudguard and Rack Compatible
Custom dropouts enable Whyte to mount the rear hydraulic disc brake caliper inside the rear triangle, making it rack and mudguards compatible. If you want any extras fitted to a Whyte Ridgeway, such as Whyte's matching mudguards, let us know when you order the bike and we will customise the bike to your requirements at no extra labour charge.

Here's how Whyte describe their Ridgeway.

'Whyte Ridgeway
With hydraulic disc brakes and a comfort enhancing suspension fork, the Ridgeway is ready for adventure whenever you are. Its lightweight, comfortable chassis and full Shimano drivetrain will give years of unrivalled performance.

Our custom built frames are loaded with unique design touches and British weatherproof features - such as the forward facing seat slot that stops water spray from the rear wheel getting into the frame and the continuous outer cables that keep the gear shifts working smoother for longer.

The ride-feel of these bikes is second to none, with a fantastic quality lightweight frame including our unique rear seat stays which really improve the comfort and performance, whatever the terrain. Puncture resistant tyres offer extra reliability and piece of mind.'
