Whyte 901 Hardtail Enduro MTB

The 2018 version of Whyte's multi-award winning 901 promises an even more amazing ride via its higher volume 27.5x2.6" tyres and its even more 'out-there' geometry.

Multi-award winning design
The Whyte 901 has the distinction of being awarded a perfect 10/10 score by MBR (Mountain Bike Rider) two years running. In December 2015, that magazine concluded that ' The Whyte 901 is the most evolved hardtail money can buy'. In 2016 MBR reached the daring conclusion that the only way Whyte's rivals could begin to match the ride quality of this bike would be to copy its progressive geometry. 'If there are any bike manufacturers reading this test who want to know how to make the humble hardtail better, Whyte has already done the hard yards, so just copy.' See full review.

New for 2018
For 2018, every Whyte 900-series bike has got even better thanks to its lower bottom bracket (297mm - was 305mm), its even more relaxed geometry via its 65˚ head tube / 73˚ seat tube angle (was 66.5/74˚) and its bigger volume tyres.

For many riders these Maxxis Forekaster tyres will be a happy halfway house between standard 27.5x2.2 and plus-size 27.5x3" tyres. With their extra traction, flotation and cushioning, these tyres may well deliver all the rear suspension you'll ever require.

Same as it ever was

  • With its lighter weight custom tubing, its hydroformed alloy frame optimised for UK riding conditions and its progressive geometry to keep the rider centered and in control, the 901 boasts the key features we love about Whyte mountain bikes - see blog
  • The 900-Series frame is built for the bike's one-by transmission, so it features Boost dropouts to take the longer, stronger 12x148mm axle appropriate for a rear hub with an 11 speed cassette
  • This frame design maximises the strength and integrity of the rear wheel by positioning the Boost hub flanges more outboard, thus reducing stress on the spokes
  • Super reliable RockShox Recon RL Solo Air fork with Motion Control damper
  • Its SRAM NX transmission has all the German-engineered features that has made SRAM 1x11 transmissions so desirable - see blog.
  • SRAM Level hydraulic disc brakes make SRAM Guide DH brake technology available in a lighter weight format.
  • Why you should consider a bike with high quality hydraulic disc brakes - the blog.
  • The tyres and rims are tubeless ready
  • Why upgrade to tubeless?

The benefits of Whyte's unique MTB trail geometry in their own words
We push the front wheel further in front of the rider at a slacker angle to the frame. This helps the steering ‘self correct', keeping you on track whether you're ripping down a rowdy mountain trail or a back road short cut turns out shady. By adding a long reach top tube we can team the stable steering with a super short, snap reacting stem for dodging traffic and potholes on the way to work or surfing sliding tyres down a black run descent. Add our own carefully selected handlebar shapes and you've got the perfect balanced of confident communication and connection in your hands.

Steering feel alone isn't enough to create a benchmark setting, award winning handling character though. We also drop the centre of gravity of our bikes as low as possible so they naturally glue themselves onto the ground through corners rather than leaving you perched and precarious. Because driving a barge is dull we keep the back ends super short whatever the wheel size to guarantee the hop and pop agility you need to bring the trail alive.'

The 901 in Whyte's own words
'With the 901 it's all about the geometry - it will make you feel more confident in all situations than any hardtail you've ever ridden. With it's BBX frame there is the easy option to upgrade to a Whyte seat post.

The award winning 901 features the "Get A Grip” seat post clamp system. This allows quick adjustment, fantastic weather proofing and a nice ergonomic lever which is easy to operate however cold your hands might be.

For 2018 the 901 rides on high air volume 2.6” Maxxis Forekaster tyres which combine with the WTB STP i29 rims to create more comfort, more control and more fun.'
