Whyte 603 2018 Hardtail MTB

The 603 inherits key UK-proof Whyte MTB features - a progressive-geometry custom-drawn frame - to create the best mountain bike ride for the money.

  • Whyte progressive geometry with 68.5 degree head tube angle, short stem and wide bars deliver confidence-inspiring control - the key to enjoying mountain biking.
  • Whyte 6061 hydroformed frame with custom tubing for lightest weight in its class
  • The frame is made especially clean with Whyte's BBX (bottom bracket exit) internal cable routing, which is weather sealed, dropper-seat ready, and designed to facilitate easier cable replacement in years to come
  • Tektro Auriga brakes - given how many great bikes come with these stoppers, Aurigas are probably the best proven hydraulic disc brakes in mountain biking today. Why you want hydraulic disc brakes
  • Smooth-shifting Shimano Altus 3x9 drivetrain offers a massive range of gears to cover any ridable terrain
  • WTB Ranger 27.5x2.25 inch tyres are genuine mountain bike treads
  • The short (45 or 60mm depending on frame size) stem with 740mm wide bars with Whyte Lock-on V Grip put you in control
  • See also the Whyte 604 which is fundamentally the same bike with a shorter top tube, making it an easier reach to the bars for shorter women, youths and men

The benefits of Whyte's unique MTB trail geometry in their own words
'
We push the front wheel further in front of the rider at a slacker angle to the frame. This helps the steering ‘self correct', keeping you on track whether you're ripping down a rowdy mountain trail or a back road short cut turns out shady. By adding a long reach top tube we can team the stable steering with a super short, snap reacting stem for dodging traffic and potholes on the way to work or surfing sliding tyres down a black run descent. Add our own carefully selected handlebar shapes and you've got the perfect balanced of confident communication and connection in your hands.

Steering feel alone isn't enough to create a benchmark setting, award winning handling character though. We also drop the centre of gravity of our bikes as low as possible so they naturally glue themselves onto the ground through corners rather than leaving you perched and precarious. Because driving a barge is dull we keep the back ends super short whatever the wheel size to guarantee the hop and pop agility you need to bring the trail alive.'

Add all the other features that make a Whyte mountain bike special, it's hard to imagine a better trail bike for the money. See our Why we're in love with Whyte mountain bikes blog

Here's how Whyte describe the Whyte 603 2018
'The Whyte design team has given the 600 series the "Trail” treatment in 2018. A longer frame, wider 740mm bar, shorter stem, wider grippier tyres and even our Enduro developed V-grips make these the most trail-ready bikes in this price category.

You'll find it hard to believe the 603 is Whyte's entry level mountain bike: with carefully chosen, branded parts and a well designed frame it has all the hallmarks of Whyte's award winning DNA.

The frame bristles with UK design features such as the "Get A Grip” seat post clamp system. This allows quick adjustment, fantastic weather proofing and a nice ergonomic lever which is easy to operate however cold your hands might be.'
