Product Description

Specialized Sequoia Elite 2017

With its custom gauge CrMo frame and clearance for its 700x42 tyres the Sequoia crosses over beautifully from road to touring to adventure to sportive to cross.

This could be the ultimate do-anything drop bar bike.

Historic note
The Sequoia was the first bike Specialized ever made in the late '70s. With its carbon fork with massive tyre/mudguard clearance, its handbuilt thru-axle wheels, its internal cable routing, its flat mount hydraulic disc brakes, its 71.5 degree head tube / 74 degree seat tube geometry (54 and 56cm size), its rack mounts and hidden mudguard mounts, Specialized have taken a classic bike and brought it bang up to the minute.

'If you've ever felt torn between a "traditional" road bike and a dedicated touring rig, you're not alone. Now, though, the Sequoia Elite gives you both by combining the two in one genre-bending bike. It has everything you need to hit the road and not look back. The Sequoia's path to adventure starts at the frame, which we constructed from Premium Cr-Mo tubing. This material is coveted for its strength, respectable weight, and tuned ride quality. And we took this a step further by selecting tubes that are specific to each frame size, further ensuring that every frame rides exactly as we intended.

Of course, this is only a piece of the equation, with the next being its dedicated Adventure Geometry. This geometry is unique in that it skews the line between a traditional road bike and a dedicated touring rig. You'll find an amble wheelbase and low bottom bracket for control, but the chainstays and tube angles ensure that you'll be able to travel efficiently and quickly, regardless of whether or not your rig is loaded. Digging into the details, the frame is outfitted with an ample number of mounts for water, racks, and fenders. And for the build, we included reliable parts, like a Shimano 105 groupset, powerful hydraulic disc brakes, and hand-built Hayfield wheels that are cased in wide, 2Bliss Ready tyres.

  • The Sequoia is built from our Premium Cr-Mo, size-specific tubing. This ensures that every frame is strong, light, and capable, while every frame size rides exactly as we intended. This philosophy is furthered with our Adventure Geometry that provides ample confidence over rough and smooth terrain, alike. And lastly, we equipped this frame with fender & rack mounts to make sure you'll be well equipped whenever adventure strikes.
  • A beefy FACT carbon fibre fork is sure to take the sting out of harsh roads. And when you're deep into said roads, you'll be thankful for the extra water bottle mount found on its fork leg.
  • Hand-built Adventure Gear Hayfield wheels are cased in 700x42mm 2Bliss Ready tyres to be burly and tough as a mule. It's the ideal wheelset for anyone looking to skip town and not look back.'

Excellent Swiss Army BikeReview by Stephen Fife
I bought one of these along with Blackburn Outpost bikepacking bags from the Co-op two months ago and its put the fun back into my cycling. Having a young family I moved from XC mountain biking to road cycling a while back as time is of the essence and a full day on the bike is just impossible. I'd sort of turned into a strava segment obsessed roadie and after reading about 'adventure' bikes decided something had to change as there are short off-road routes 10-15 miles away from me on tracks and trails which are a chore on the mountain bike to reach to but too much for the 23mm road tyres........however........after riding this bike for the first time on the road then throwing it about on the tracks (with a few little jumps and lots of mud) I haven't ridden my road bike once since. This bike is tough, stable, a bit heavy, but has gearing that is spot on for road and light off road and it just handles brilliantly either on the drops or putting the foot down. I love this bike. Its not the best choice if you are a roadie with a need for speed or a mountain biker who tackles big rocks, but for everything in between and mixed terrain its just lots of fun to ride. I suddenly have the ability to nip along the road, jump onto the coastal path, then head through the forest and over tracks and back onto pavement again. It's best described as a sort of luxury CX bike, with a very comfortable riding position and lower gearing to let you go at your own pace and tackle obstacles with ease. I love this bike.
