With its Brain inertia-valved rear shock, the Epic Comp delivers Specialized FSR suspension in the rough and hardtail efficiency on the smooth. It works! Team Specializeds Filip Meirhaeghe won the 2003 Mens XC World Championships on an Epic - the first time this hardtail-dominated discipline has ever been won on a dual suspension bike.
The 100mm-travel Fox Float RL forx complements the Fox Brain shock perfectly.
The Specialized features revolutionary suspension technology that you cant fail to get excited about. Unlike most frames which have 2 suspension settings - fully active or locked off, this bike is fitted with a Brain Shock system which adapts to the terrain and adjusts the suspension setting automatically. It basically means that it feels like a hard tail, until a compression hits it (when you go over a rock or log for example), whereby the force of that compression will engage the shock action. So on the whole the bike will feel stiff, but theres still suspension action there if you need it, whenever you need it. This essentially allows for far more efficient pedalling allowing you to ride all day with far more energy. Ace!
