Specialized Ariel Hydraulic Disc 2019 Women's Hybrid Bike

Specialized Ariel is the first name in women's commuter hybrid bikes with suspension forks and hydraulic disc brakes to make it capable on light trails.

Why you should consider a bike with hydraulic disc brakes.

Specialized Ariel Overview

When Specialized introduced their women's Ariel and unisex Crosstrail ranges of trail capable commuter bikes in 2008 they created a genre - much as Specialized have done throughout their history (think Specialized Stumpjumper mountain bike or Roubaix sportive road bike).

As is the Specialized way, the Ariel concept has evolved and been refined, so their 2018 models are better looking and ride more smoothly than ever. For all these improvements, every Ariel bike lives up to Specialized's original ambition - that is to create a trail-capable commuter bike.

To this end, every Ariel rolls on 700x38 tyres which are faster than off road knobblies and more forgiving than 23-28mm-wide road bike tyres. Pannier rack and mudguard compatibility make an Ariel perfect for commuting, touring and general riding. The suspension fork offers shock absorption that helps make the bike suitable for light trail riding. Brain technology means the fork's 55mm travel is only active when required and is automatically locked out for rigid fork-like efficiency on smooth roads.

To illustrate the extra care Specialized take, they get the smallest details just right. For instance, the wheel rims are double wall and the rear freehub takes a cassette rather than a freewheel to help ensure greater strength and longevity. Even the chain is specially selected for its anti-corrosion coating to help ensure minimum maintenance and maximum service life for its wide-range Shimano 3x8 drivetrain.

It's little wonder that Ariel bikes have been among our most consistent best sellers since their introduction. If you are looking for a women's geometry bike that works well over the widest spectrum of conditions, a rugged commuter/hybrid such as a Specialized Ariel is well worth considering.

Here's how Specialized describe their Ariel Hydraulic Disc

Safety and control—two things that can be top-of-mind when heading out to get your heart rate up. This Ariel with hydraulic disc brakes takes care of safety with incredible stopping power, while control is provided through a women's-specific geometry and a custom suspension fork that'll have you tackling workouts on paved or dirt surfaces with equal confidence.

Not stopping there, we also included light and tough A1 premium aluminum frame tubing, workhorse components that are sized and designed specifically for women, and a wide range of gears that'll take the sting out of steep trails. It's everything you need to take your fitness wherever your heart decides, whether it's the road or the dirt around your house.

Designed for women who want to mix adventure with fitness, the hard-working, sturdy A1 Premium Aluminum frame features our Women’s Fitness Geometry—meaning that you’ll go faster with maximum efficiency, only without the discomfort of an aggressive ride position. The more comfortable you are, the longer you’ll ride.

An SR Suntour NEX fork w/ Fitness Brain technology features 55mm of coil-sprung travel that takes the sting out of bumpy terrain, while our Fitness Brain technology promotes more climbing and pedaling efficiency.

Braking duties are handled by Promax Solve hydraulic disc brakes that provide all of the hallmarks of hydraulic braking—consistent performance, easy engagement, and overall power.
