Product Description

Specialized Allez Sport 2018

The Allez Sport has all the lighter weight, smoother riding 2018 upgrades as the standard model, further enhanced with a Shimano Sora 2x9 STI drivetrain.

What's new for the 2018 Specialized Allez?

  • All new E5 alloy frame and full carbon fork makes every Allez model a full 450g lighter this year
  • The pro-quality Specialized Tarmac-inspired tapered head tube and steerer reinforce the front end of the bike to deliver sharper steering and help ensure judder-free braking
  • Also with a nod to the Tarmac, the frame's skinny seat are 'dropped' to meet the seat tube lower, not just to save weight but to absorb road shock better
  • A slightly more relaxed frame geometry (73 degree head tube / 73.25 seat tube angle in size 54cm) with a shorter reach to the compact drop bars and a 1cm taller head tube make the Allez immediately more comfortable for most riders - especially for day-long rides such as sportives
  • The Allez boasts the clearance and eyelets required for fitting full length mudguards and a rear rack, so the bike is now better equipped for commuting, touring, audax and general year-round riding
  • As with any new bike from us, if you order your extras such as mudguards with the bike, we'll waive our normal fitting charge
  • Comes fitted with 700x25 tyres as standard (with clearance for 28c) to acknowledge the growing consensus that wider volume tyres aren't just more comfortable, they can also be faster - more on this
  • Going back to a threaded bottom bracket will be welcomed as a great step forward by most home (and pro) mechanic

Specialized Allez History
Specialized have been building Allez road bikes since the mid-1980s. From the start, Specialized Allez road bikes have been admired for their build quality and value for money. We in turn have been championing the Allez longer than any other road bike model, so we can safely say that the Allez has introduced more of our customers to the thrill and delights of road biking than any other model.

The Allez Today
All the upgrades described above makes us confident that there has never been a better time to opt for an Allez.

More on the Allez Sport spec

  • E5 is a unique-to-Specialized alloy of aluminium, silicon, copper, manganese, magnesium and zinc. E5 is more formable than conventional 6061 aluminium. This enables Specialized to specify every inch of tube so the frame is as light as possible where it can be and strong as possible where needs be. It truly is an elite alloy, Tour tested in France by the likes of Mario Cipollini at the turn of the century, then upgraded and continually evolved since them
  • For instance, the Allez 2018's E5 frameset is smooth welded to minimise material and maximise its efficiency
  • Upgrading from a metal to a carbon fork is probably the single most significant upgrade you can make on a road bike
  • As well as being lighter weight, a carbon fork will be vertically more compliant for a smoother ride and laterally stiffer for razor sharp steering
  • Specialized FACT (Functionally Advanced Composite Technology) carbon forks are regularly rated among the best you can ride
  • The Shimano Sora 2x9 drivetrain delivers all the benefits of STI - i.e. the gear levers are integrated with the brake levers to make gear shifting slick, simple and intuitive
  • Tektro Dual Pivot brakes offer close-to-Shimano levels of assured performance
  • The Specialized Body Geometry Toupé Sport is one of our best proven saddles - more
  • Specialized Espoir Sport 700x25 tyres boast two layers of BlackBelt puncture protection beneath the tread to minimise the risk of punctures
  • The Specialized Shallow Drop bars makes for easy transition from the bar tops to the hoods to the drops

Here's how Specialized describe this year's Allez range

Discerning riders exist at all levels and our goal with the all-new Allez was to build the best alloy road bike, regardless of price point. We began by focusing on building a frameset that's lightweight and Win-Tunnel-proven, and then we completed the build with high-end components, like Specialized tyres with Gripton® and Body Geometry saddles. And while these things are expected in bikes that cost thousands, the Allez makes these technologies accessible to everyone.

We've been refining our alloy construction for years, and the use of our E5 alloy allows aggressive butting profiles that save weight and improve ride quality. In fact, this new Allez frameset features a 450-gram weight reduction. The Allez's new frame also takes a large amount of inspiration from its carbon brother, the Tarmac, so it features a tapered head tube and dropped seatstays.

And even if razor sharp performance may not be the first thing on your mind, you'll feel it instinctively when you're on the bike. Features like the dropped seatstays came as a result of our engineers' daily trips to the Win Tunnel, and they offer an aero benefit that's proven to be faster. But to create the perfect ride, we also addressed predictability and confidence with a tapered head tube that aids in creating a ride quality unlike anything in this class.

We also made sure to focus on features that you'd expect to find in high-end bikes, but are often forgotten when manufacturers are cutting costs. This means that the Allez has full internal cable routing to keep a clean aesthetic for the rider, plus it's easy for mechanics to work on with the inclusion of large cable stops.

The new Allez features a brand new, full carbon fibre fork that's derived from the Tarmac. And with a full carbon steerer tube, we're able to substantially reduce weight while also providing a stiffer, more precise, and better handling front end. Additionally, without the additional junction between a carbon crown and alloy steerer tube, we can tune the ride quality of the bike to provide a smoother and more comfortable ride.

The Allez rider might not know that the correct number of bikes for a cyclist is N+1, where (N) equals the number of bikes one currently owns. For this reason, it's important that the Allez takes into consideration all the uses they might have.

With rack and fender mounts, the Allez can be an escape to a group ride on the weekend and your smooth city commuter during the week. A Body Geometry saddle, meanwhile, provides a supportive place to sit, and shallow drop handlebars keep the brake/shifters easily within reach. Lastly, we've adjusted the Allez geometry with a slightly taller head tube been paired with bit longer wheel base to be more forgiving for up and coming riders. It also ensures that handling is predictable and stable regardless, of what the pavement is like.

Specialized Allez Sport 2018
All too often, corners are cut to meet price-points in the entry-level road bike market, but the Allez Sport redefines what it means to be "entry level." Focusing on weight, refinement, and reliability like nothing else in its class, the Allez strays from the norm. And while these things are expected in bikes that cost thousands, it's the first to make these technologies accessible to everyone.

  • E5 Premium Aluminium frame features fully manipulated tubing with smooth welds that increase stiffness and efficiency, while looking just as good as it performs.
  • Specialized FACT carbon, full monocoque fork designed for high-speed handling.
  • Shimano Sora STI shifters are reliable, and worry free—making sure to keep you riding without hassle of maintenance

Excellent choice for entry level road bikrReview by Ewan
Having owned 2 touring bikes but never having owned a road bike the choice was a bit overwhelming to say the least
At 6'4" I needed to be diligent at frame size but Specialized have it covered with their 61cm frame What caught my eye was the new relaxed geometry as I was a little worried about a stooped riding position
After much deliberation I plumped for the Allez Sport 2018 and the bike was ready for collection 2 days later Having stopped cycling 10 years ago after completing LeJog and damaging both my Achilles heals I still had some worries I needn't have worried I was surprised at the lightness of the bike for an entry level and the responsiveness of the carbon forks Kept it pretty much as it left the factory Was pleased with the saddle which is similar to what I'd been used to and my touring bikes were fitted with STI shifters as well The Sora components are reliable and smooth The braking is excellent and fills you with confidence All in all i am very pleased with this bike and would without hesitation recommend it if you're considering a first road bike Love the colour too (Posted on 03/09/2017)
