Roux Etape 150

7005 alloy frame, 3x7 Shimano STI gearing, cantilever brakes, mudguards and alloy rack: the Roux Etape 150 is an excellent value introduction to touring bikes.

Roux are a British bicycle brand founded in 2012. Their bikes are manufactured in the same Strongman factory where most of our own-brand Revolution bikes are built, so we can guarantee the quality, strength and reliability of these bicycles.

The Roux Etape 150
The Roux Etape 150 offers the comfort and stability you would expect from a touring bike. These qualities mean that this bike can easily double as you everyday, do-anything, fast commuter bike/workhorse.

The bike is built on a TIG-welded 7005 aluminium frame. This is one of the strongest alloys used in bicycle frame construction, so it can be safely built thinner walled so the bike's a reasonable weight. The hi-tensile fork is strong, durable and reasonably lightweight too.

Shimano STI Gearing

STI means Shimano Total Integration.

  • The gear shifters are integrated with the brake levers to make it easy to change gear when your hands are comfortably positioned on the brake hoods
  • The right hand lever pivots inwards to select bigger rear cogs (lower gears)
  • Alternatively, click the thumb-shift button to move the chain to a smaller sprocket (higher gears)
  • Similarly, simply nudge the left hand brake lever inwards, around 20 degrees, to shift to a bigger chainring.
  • Click the thumb-shift button, conveniently positioned behind the brake lever, to shift back to a smaller chainring
  • ST-AO70/3 might be Shimano's least expensive STI set, but this is a sophisticated pair of levers that retails for £100
  • The rest of the transmission is also courtesy of Shimano - the Number One name in bicycle components - to ensure best performance for the money
  • The Shimano 30/39/50 chainset and 12-28 cassette deliver a wide spread of smooth shifting gears

Strong wheels - stout tyres

  • The rear wheel is built to take a cassette rather than a freewheel
  • This helps create an intrinsically stronger, better balanced wheel
  • The alloy rims are double walled for extra strength, and machined to create a more effective braking surface
  • The 700x32 tyres help create the perfect all-rounder bike that can offer speed potential on good roads, grip on dirt roads and cushioning on cobbles
  • Kevlar belts under the treads enhance the tyres' puncture resistance

Classy Tektro Oryx cantilever brakes work well and offer tons of mudguard clearance as required on a touring bike.

Drop Bars
Drop bars have been proven for over a century as the ultimate multi-position handlebar, designed to maximise speed and minimise fatigue.

Drop bars help you ride more efficiently and more comfortably by enabling you to change your riding position as follows.

  • Hands on the brake hoods for general riding
  • Hands on the drops to help overcome head winds
  • Hands on the tops for relaxing, chatting and making the most of the tail winds

These Kalloy (another respected brand name) bars are covered with cushioned gel tape to further ensure comfort.

The saddle is also gel padded to damp road vibrations.

Full Mudguards
Farewell to rain splash on your trousers and back.

Rear luggage rack
Hello to a bike that can take panniers/rack pack
