Deserved winner of What Mountain Bike magazine's Bike of the Year award in the 'Best Full Suspension Short Travel Bike Under £1,500' category. (The term 'short travel' is used to differentiate the Rift Zone from heavier 5"+ long travel rigs)
'Marin have an all new top line frame this year, switching to a semi-monocoque design after tweaking their tubular frames as much as they could. Prices have nudged a bit higher but we reckon the noticeably stiffer chassis is well worth it. All the benchmark Marin geometry and suspension dots are now joined by 2 seam-welded clamshell sections with a bridging shock mount piece in the centre. The full length seat tube and big crotch clearance are still there. Planted and totally neutral handling translates to stress free XC riding, and a shorter stem will liven responses enough for tackling the technical stuff. The mid/forward pivot point still delivers the excellent balance of climbing traction, fluid terrain following and huge mud clearance that have made it a benchmark for years.
The Fox shock gives full rebound damping control and Marin even pre fit tough transparent cable rub pads to stop paint damage. The same frame forms the heart of both the East Peak and Mount Vision but category winner here is the Rift Zone. With well balanced Manitou Mars fork and lightweight disc-ready wheels on that well sorted frame it makes for an impressively light package for a 4" travel bike.
