Kalkhoff Jubilee Advance i7 2018 Step-Through

The Jubilee Excite i7 is an urban e-bike made especially clean with its Shimano Nexus 7 hub gears and especially long range with its high capacity 603Wh battery.

  • As with every hub gear, the Shimano Nexus gear change mechanism is protected from the elements inside the rear wheel’s hub
  • You can change gear whether you’re pedalling or not, moving or stationary
  • With a 244% difference between top and bottom gear (equivalent to an 11-27 cassette) the Nexus 7-speed hub offers a decent range of gears for mostly urban use
  • Hub gears are almost always cleaner, lower maintenance and longer lasting than derailleur systems
  • Add Magura hydraulic brakes to the mix and you have one extraordinarily reliable, clean machine

Impulse 2 power-assist motor
You can buy the Jubilee Advance confident in the knowledge that Kalkhoff have sold over 400,000 e-bikes powered by German engineered Impulse motors and batteries.

Impulse 2 is Kalkhoff's own Centre Drive system, designed and manufactured in Germany where Kalkhoff are respected as the number one manufacturer of electric city/trekking/hybrid bikes. That's a significant accolade when you consider that Germany is Europe's biggest, fastest growing and most discerning eBike market.

The Impulse 2 drive unit is mounted at bottom bracket level (the strongest part of any bike) to power the crank (in contrast with most e-bikes which are front or rear wheel hub drive).

  • Most riders find Centre Drive power assist feels more natural than a hub-drive system
  • With the motor low down at bottom bracket level at the bike’s mid point, the bike feels better balanced than an e-bike with the motor on the front or rear hub
  • With its lower centre of gravity a Centre Drive e-bike feels more stable
  • Wheel fitting/removal is much easier when the motor is central rather than wheel driven
  • Shift-sensor technology - the power assist cuts out for a fraction of a second when you change gear to prevent the jarring that can occur when you shift under load
  • This 80Nm torque motor has the muscle to get you going from a standing start up a steep incline
  • The classy Impulse bar mount computer has an easy to read LCD display so you can keep an eye on battery level, power mode, speed, trip distance and odometer
  • The 603Wh Impulse battery is one powerful fuel tank capable of powering the motor up to 100km on mixed terrain and will be good for over 1,000 charge cycles
  • The battery fits neatly behind the frame seat tube
  • Walk mode comes in very handy if you ever have to push the bike - say up one of those bike ramps thoughtfully located beside stairs
  • In compliance with EU and UK law, this e-bike is a pedal bike with up to 250W power assist, which cuts out once you reach 25KPH (15.5 MPH)
  • This limiter doesn't prevent you going faster 'the old way' - by pedalling harder

The Bike Itself

The bike itself is an especially clean take on the Euro trekking bike theme. That is, it's a fully equipped commuter/hybrid bike equally at home on smooth roads or rough tracks - albeit with a 250 Watt motor to ease the strain of riding uphill and into headwinds.

  • Magura hydraulic rim brakes offer the cable-free, low maintenance performance of hydraulic disc brakes in a more familiar rim brake format
  • SunTour suspension forks help smooth bumpy roads and tracks
  • The wheels roll on durable, puncture resistant Schwalbe 700x38 tyres
  • The bike is fitted with full mudguards and chainguard to help you stay clean
  • It also comes with a rack to carry panniers
  • Then it's fitted with a heavy duty kickstand for easy parking when there's nowhere convenient to lean the bike
  • The front dynamo hub powers the high quality front and rear LED lights, so no light batteries to replace or recharge - ever
  • Unlike some dynamo systems, the lights have a standlight feature, so they stay on when you stop at the traffic lights
  • These lights are bolted onto the bike - the front at the fork crown and the rear on the back of the pannier rack - so you'll never be caught out without lights
  • Similarly, you'll never leave its integral AXA rear wheel lock behind
  • The adjustable stem makes it easier to achieve the most comfortable bar height
