And now there is a passport available to mark your progress along the route while benefitting from exclusive offers and discounts from local businesses (like us!) along the way.<\/p>\n<h2>THE ROUTE<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 600px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.edinburghbicycle.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/222\/2025\/04\/7216_1701_3190_jmw-credit-scotland-bigpicture-4.jpg\" alt=\"jmw-credit-scotland-bigpicture-4.jpg\" \/> Traversing central Scotland coast to coast in 134 miles (can be made easier on a touring bike like a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edinburghbicycle.com\/bikes\/genesis\"> Genesis hybrid bike<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edinburghbicycle.com\/collection\/genesis-croix-de-fer-bikes\">Genesis Croix De Fer Bikes<\/a>), it links Helensburgh in the west with Dunbar in the east (birthplace of America\u2019s \u2018father of national parks\u2019 John Muir).<\/p>\n<p>Going through Scotland\u2019s first national park \u2013 Loch Lomond &amp; The Trossachs along with coastal paths, beaches, canals, villages, towns and even the capital, this route is a great mixture of landscape, culture, and history. <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"max-width: 600px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.edinburghbicycle.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/222\/2025\/04\/4516_1701_3192_jmw-passport-1.jpeg\" alt=\"jmw-passport-1.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>THE PASSPORT<\/h2>\n<p>Mark your progress from coast to coast (and benefit from exclusive offers from local businesses) with an official passport! As you cycle (or walk) along the ten sections of the route, pop into a stamping station (which includes our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.edinburghbicycle.com\/info\/our-shops\/bruntsfield-edinburgh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bruntsfield<\/a> shop) and get your passport stamped.<\/p>\n<h2>GIVE THE JOHN MUIR WAY A GO<\/h2>\n<p>You can do the John Muir Way over the course of a few days, take it easier and do it over a week or more or just choose one or two sections.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"max-width: 600px\" src=\"https:\/\/www.edinburghbicycle.com\/info\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/222\/2025\/04\/5516_1701_3191_jmw2-credit-scotland-bigpicture.jpg\" alt=\"jmw2-credit-scotland-bigpicture.jpg\" \/> It\u2019s recommended you opt for a mountain, hybrid, gravel or adventure bike (electric hybrids are also a great option). Tyres at least 30mm wide are recommended. The route is intended to be pleasant but at times challenging which includes short steep or rough sections.
