The Wooler Wheel Sportive was one of the best events we supported in 2013. Our backup mechanic Karl reckoned it was easily among the friendliest and best organised ride he has ever been involved in and confirmed that the traffic-lite route is spectacular.
The 2014 Wooler Wheel Borderlands Sportive promises to be even more ambitious and imaginative with half the route in England and half the route in Scotland.
To quote the Wooler Wheel organisers.
Coming for May 17th 2014. The Wooler Wheel Borderlands….where the unique meets the unusual – a unique challenge and an unusual venue. A series of firsts, first for the Wooler Wheel a dedicated event for Radio Borders charity Cash for Kids with allproceeds going to the charity. Ambassador for the event is author and ITV’s cycling’s Ned Boulting. First for the WW – and this area, a 170k cross border sportive which is, in the opinion of the Routemaster, equal to, if not more challenging than the Etape Caledonia and over more diverse scenery. On the same day is the first ever British junior specific sportive, a 30k ride, ideal if your children are just starting out cycling. All juniors have to be accompanied by a responsible adult (no charge for the adult!). Two shorter routes of 100k and 60k are available.
