Revolution Reviews

Revolution logo

Revolution is the exclusive brand name of Edinburgh Bike Co-op, the UK’s original workers’ co-operative bicycle retailer.

The name was inspired by the slogan we adopted in 1999 The Revolution Will Not Be Motorised.

It’s a slogan we still stand by. It’s our proclamation that, for most people in most circumstances, the bicycle is the smartest way to get around.

True to our co-operative ethos, our Revolutionary ambition is to make quality bicycle equipment more affordable.

But don’t take our word for it. Below are reviews of Revolution products that we have collated over the years. Please note: not all the products listed are still available. View our current range: View all Revolution bikes | View all Revolution accessories | View all Revolution clothing.

Revolution Sabre '14Revolution Sabre ’14

Thank you T3 for recognising our Revolution Sabre as ‘among the best road bikes to get started with in 2015’.

Sadly it’s sold out already. However, you might want to consider the Sabre’s stable-mate the Revolution Continental.

Although the Continental doesn’t cost much more than the Sabre, it offers two significant upgrades.

1: A smoother operating slicker-shifting Shimano Claris 2×8 drivetrain.

2: A stronger rear wheel, courtesy of its cassette rear hub.

Revolution Ascent XC Disc 27.5 ’15

Our design aim with our whole Revolution range is to make quality bikes more affordable. So it goes with our Revolution Ascent XC Disc. It might come in at an entry-level £339 price, but we still want it to be a capable introduction to the wonderful world of mountain biking.

So when Neil Braidwood from Scotland Outdoors magazine asked for a loan of a try-out mountain bike we obliged with our very own Revolution Ascent XC Disc.

Neil’s verdict: ‘The bike held up brilliantly throughout. Solid, lightweight, and with quality fittings, it’s a great value buy.’

Revolution Belter ’12

The Revolution Belter Independently Rated
The 15 November edition of The Independent features our Revolution Belter. The Indie described our revolutionary belt-drive bike as a flighty, single-speed city runaround with an upright riding position and wide handlebars for stability while weaving through traffic, it begs you to zip around a little faster, while no ounce of effort seems to go to waste.

October 2012, Observer Magazine
Some of us believe that the Revolution Belter is the best looking bicycle the Bike Co-op has ever created.
We are proud to report that The Observer staff appear to agree. They selected the Revolution Belter to feature on their ‘Most Wanted’ page on Sunday 21 October.

“This bike from Edinburgh Bicycle, a workers’ co-operative, is aptly named – it’s a Revolution. It’s remarkable for what it doesn’t have: no gears, no cables and no shifters. And that means no oil, no noise and no problem. Instead of a chain, the £599.99 bike boasts a carbon belt which never squeaks and never needs to be lubricated. It also looks terrific and weighs almost nothing.”

October 2012, Cycling Plus

Cycling Plus reviewed the beautiful Revolution Belter and awarded it 4 stars out of a possible 5. Their verdict was spot on: ‘Minimal maintenance; great ride.’

Revolution Country Traveller ’11

December 2011/January 2012 edition of Cycle

“It’s rather obvious that the Revolution is a better bike. For a start it’s lighter – a lot lighter. Some say weight doesn’t matter on tour. I disagree, and besides tourers should be versatile.”

Bikeradar.com – June 2008

“The Shadow is the flagship road bike in Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative’s Revolution range. It squeezes a whole lot of performance into a £999 package with a lively, enthusiastic ride that’s also very comfortable. There’s a lot to get excited about here and, in terms of value, it’s hard to beat.”

Revolution Shadow Mountain BikeRevolution Shadow Mountain Bike

MBR (Mountain Bike Rider), March 2008

“It all adds up to a bike that can literally be raced, or just plain ridden hard and fast, straight out the box with lightweight, well chosen components and a geometry that just demands to be ridden uphill and down twisty singletrack. You wouldn’t want to be riding it all day every day, but for a machine you can lift off the rack and go for a blast on, you would struggle to beat it for the price.”
