You might baulk at the idea of mounting mudguards on your beautiful cross bike – until you try them and realise you don’t have to get filthy to have fun. Here are our favourite two mudguards for your cross bike, price tracked for your pleasure.
SKS P-Series Mudguards from £31.49 (RRP £34.99)
Our Grant (below) arrives for work unspattered on his Cannondale CAADX, courtesy of his SKS P45 mudguards. Cycling Plus rated SKS mudguards, ‘the standard by which all guards should be measured,’ when they reviewed them in 2008. Nothing has changed since then.
Grant says: ‘I went for the CAADX because of the versatility. Semi-slick tyres make it fast on my road commute, but give me the option of some cheeky trails when the urge takes me.
I also wanted discs for the stopping power and lack of wear on rims plus the ability to fit full mudguards to keep my backside dry.
All in all, a great all round bike.’
SKS Raceblade £34.19 (RRP £37.99)
The XL version of the Raceblade mudguard set fits cross bikes such as the Liv Brava SLR and the Giant TCX SLR, which don’t have traditional mudguard mounts. Once mounted, Raceblades are easy to remove or refit as the weather dictates.
