In the early days of the Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative, when we were called ‘Recycles’ in 1977, we worked a four day week and opened at 10a.m. because we didn’t want to have to wake up too early.
Those halcyon days are gone, and now that we’re harder working we focus more on catering to our customers’ needs. That’s why we’re only closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Years’ Day.
24 December: Open as usual
25 December: Closed
26 December: Closed
27-31 December: Open as usual
1 January 2017: Closed
2 January 2017: Open as usual
We believe Christmas is a time that should be spent with family and friends, or at the very least with a bicycle, which is why we won’t be forcing our staff (i.e. ourselves) to wake up early on Boxing Day and stand in a shop for 8 hours. Similarly, New Years’ Day should be spent sleeping until at least midday. We encourage anyone who’s planning on spending either of those days in a shopping centre to check themselves before they wreck themselves.
Here’s a poem from Ged:
Keeping it real
We’re proud to say
We won’t be open on Boxing Day
We workers can play
With our partners and our kids or our bikes all day
That’s another way to say
Our Winter Sale doesn’t start til Tuesday
So we look forward to seeing you in store on Tuesday 27th December for our Winter Sale, and until then have an excellent Christmas!
