17th September 2025 – One of the Central Scotlands best-known and best-loved independent cycle shops, Giant Store Stirling / Velocity 44, is pleased to announce it is now under new ownership and management by Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative Ltd.
The handover ushers in a new era for the shop, which has long been a fixture of the local cycling scene, known for its skilled repairs, quality bicycles and warm, knowledgeable service.
“I’ve known Stewart Wilson Cycles and Velocity 44 for many years and we’re absolutely thrilled to be taking on the store to continue serving local riders,” said Alan Nestor, Managing Director, Edinburgh Bicycle. “Our aim is to keep everything people already value about the shop, while building a new team and investing in new product. We are also delighted to be working again with Giant UK on our second brand store.”
Founded in 1977 by cycling enthusiasts, Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative is Scotland’s longest-established worker-cooperative dedicated to serving cyclists.
From its first shop in Edinburgh, the Co-op now operates six stores across Scotland and Northern England.
Every store is staffed by people who ride themselves, passionate about bikes, and trained to offer expert advice, repairs and servicing — whether for road, mountain, electric, cargo, folding or children’s bikes.
As a worker-cooperative, Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative is owned equally by its employees. After a year with the Co-op, staff are invited to become co-owners, sharing in decision-making and the responsibility (and reward) of the business.
