Giant Propel Advanced Pro 2 2019 Road Bike

Speed is the name of the game with this Entry Advanced Pro areo carbon bike equppied with Shimano 105 2x11 drivetrain

Blistering speed potential aside, the quality that has most impressed Giant Propel Advanced Pro riders is a level of comfort, previously unheard of in an aero road bike.

Or as Cycling Plus put it: 'Not only does it share the aggressive, short wheelbased geometry of the classic TCR; it blends in the noted smoothness of the brilliant endurance-focused Defy in the process.'

Giant Propel key features

  • Weapon of choice of pro team Giant-Alpecin - Tom Dumoulin (Giro D'Italia 2017 winner) et al
  • Giant SLR 1 Aero WheelSystem - designed as a system, not as a collection of separate components - for performance, strength and enhanced acceleration potential. The benefits of system built wheels
  • SLR 1 wheels are built using Giant's Dynamic Balanced Lacing system - so spoke tensions balance out as riding forces are applied, resulting in a stiffer, more efficient wheel
  • For an even smoother ride and extra puncture resistance, the wheels are fitted with Giant Gavia SL Tubeless 700x25mm folding tyres - the benefits of tubeless tyres
  • AeroSystem Shaping Technology - data compiled from Computational Fluid Dynamics research and wind-tunnel tests was used by Giant's engineer's to optimize the shape of every Advanced Grade Composite frameset tube to maximise aerodynamic efficiency
  • Giant SpeedControl SL Brakes - the front brake is mounted behind the fork crow, the rear behind the seatstays, to shield them from the wind. The brakes' trailing edges further reduce turbulence
  • The Giant Vector composite seatpost continues the lightweight aerodynamic theme
  • PowerCore - the massively oversized bottom bracket/chainstay area features a fully integrated, 86mm-wide bottom bracket to more efficiently convert your pedaling input into speed
  • Asymmetric chainstays reinforce the driveside
  • OverDrive - Giant’s innovative oversized fork steerer-tube design increases front-end stiffness and enhances steering performance. The tapered steerer and oversized bearings (1 1/4 inch top, 1 1/2-inch bottom) boost torsional steering stiffness so you can sprint and corner with supreme precision
  • RideSense ANT+ cadence and speed transmitter - compatible with Ant+ cycle computers and home trainers.
  • Shimano 105 5800 11-speed - 'Shimano's best bang-for-your-buck groupset yet.' road.cc - see review
  • Now even smoother shifting, as soon as you use 105 STI 2x11 levers, you will understand why Shimano 105 is the world's most popular road bike groupset

Giant Advanced Carbon Composite Frameset

  • Every Advanced Pro frameset is fabricated in-house by Giant, from its raw performance-grade Toray T-700 carbon filament to its final lacquered finish, to create a stiffer, lighter weight and more compliant ride.
  • Blending Toray T700 carbon filament and resin with vibration-absorbing particles helps maximise rider comfort and frame strength (hence the lifetime guarantee).
  • Modified Monocoque Construction: the front triangle is assembled and moulded as one continuous piece.
  • The main frame is then joined to the rear chainstays and seatstays in a secondary process.
  • This process eliminates the outermost woven composite sheet to reduce weight without affecting ride quality, strength or stiffness.

Here's how Giant describe the Propel Advanced Pro 2

GIVE YOURSELF THE AERO ADVANTAGE—WHEN AND WHERE YOU NEED IT MOST. THIS ALL-NEW WIND-SLICING ROAD BIKE MINIMIZES DRAG AND SAVES PRECIOUS WATTS IN SPRINTS, BREAKAWAYS AND ATTACKS. BECAUSE SMALL GAINS LEAD TO BIG WINS.

Developed with pro sprinters and proven in the heat of the battle, the all-new Propel Advanced Pro combines the superior aerodynamic performance of the current Propel Disc range with the convenience of new and improved rim brake performance. Extensive CFD analysis and dynamic wind-tunnel testing was used to optimize every frame tube and angle in a process called AeroSystem Shaping technology. The frame is handcrafted using Advanced-grade composite material to produce a bike that is both lightweight and stiff, with a sharp, responsive ride quality. Purpose-built aero road technologies, including SpeedControl brakes, a Vector seatpost and new rim-brake technology put the new Propel Advanced Pro ahead of the pack.

  • Advanced-grade carbon composite frame
  • Advanced-grade carbon composite fork with full-composite OverDrive 2 steerer
  • Shimano 105 11-speed componentry
  • Giant SpeedControl SL brakes
  • Giant SLR 1 Aero composite WheelSystem with Giant Gavia tubeless tyres
