Product Description

Giant Defy Advanced Pro 1 2017

One of the best looking Shimano Ultegra disc brake carbon road bikes, now with carbon wheels with tubeless tyres for a smoother ride and fewer flats.

Spec highlights

  • Pro-spec, full Advanced Grade Composite fork with OverDrive 2 (inch and a quarter-to-inch and a half) steerer.
  • Shimano Ultegra-quality hydraulic disc brakes are smoother, better modulated and more powerful than even the best cable-operated disc brakes. Why you should consider a bike with high quality hydraulic disc brakes.
  • Giant SLR 1 Disc WheelSystem - designed as a system, not as a collection of separate components - for performance, strength and enhanced acceleration potential. The benefits of system built wheels.
  • Retailing on their own at over 1,000 euros a pair, Giant's all new carbon composite SLR 1 Disc Centre-Lock Wheelsystem weighs in at just 1,650g (per full wheelsystem).
  • With an up to the minute 23mm wide and 30mm deep rim profile, SLR 1 wheels feature Giant alloy centrelock disc hubs and are clincher and tubeless compatible.
  • SLR 1 wheels are built using Giant's Dynamic Balanced Lacing system - so spoke tensions balance out as riding forces are applied, resulting in a stiffer, more efficient wheel.
  • 12mm front and rear thru-axles beef up the wheel-to-fork and wheel-to-frame interface and help eliminate judder.
  • For an even smoother ride and extra puncture resistance, the wheels are fitted with Giant Gavia SL Tubeless 700x25mm folding tyres.
  • RideSense ANT+ cadence and speed transmitter - compatible with Ant+ cycle computers and home trainers.

Giant Defy Advanced Carbon Composite Frameset

  • Every Defy Advanced Pro frameset is fabricated in-house by Giant, from its raw performance-grade Toray T-700 carbon filament to its final lacquered finish, to create a stiffer, lighter weight and more compliant ride.
  • Blending Toray T700 carbon filament and resin with vibration-absorbing particles helps maximise rider comfort and frame strength (hence the lifetime guarantee).
  • Modified Monocoque Construction: the front triangle is assembled and moulded as one continuous piece.
  • The main frame is then joined to the rear chainstays and seatstays in a secondary process.
  • This process eliminates the outermost woven composite sheet to reduce weight without affecting ride quality, strength or stiffness.

How do they do it? More engineered-in benefits

  • Making it disc brake-specific means the frame doesn't require a rear brake bridge.
  • Having no brake bridge to support allows Giant to spec skinnier seatstays.
  • Giant Defy Advanced seatstays are as skinny as you will get – any thinner, the stays would be rods, not tubes.
  • Fewer holes – for instance, both derailleur cables are routed through one hole in the head tube, not two. That's significant because holes in carbon frames have to be reinforced, which adds extra weight.
  • Being disc-specific the wheel rims are thinner walled to reduces rotating weight.

Giant D-Fuse SL Seatpost
The Giant D-shaped carbon composite seatpost works in tandem with the skinny seatstays to do a remarkable job of damping bad vibes that would otherwise be transmitted from unsmooth road surfaces.

Engineered for real-world performance, especially on challenging roads and long days in the saddle. The Advanced-grade composite frame features endurance geometry with the perfect blend of light weight, stiffness and road-smoothing compliance. The OverDrive 2 steerer tube and composite fork work together to boost front-end stiffness and precision. Disc brake technology with 12mm front and rear thru-axles gives you total control, even on rough roads and poor conditions. The D-Fuse seatpost smooths out road vibrations and the PowerCore bottom bracket turns every pedal stroke into positive forward motion.
