Giant Defy Advanced 1 2019 - Carbon Road Bike

This Giant Defy Advanced 1 is an elite carbon frame sportive road bike.  Read more about what's new in the Giant Defy 2019 range

Key Features

  • Advanced-grade carbon composite frame and fork
  • Giant D-fuse carbon composite seatpost
  • Shimano Ultegra 2x11 drivetrain
  • Giant Gavia 700x28mm tubeless tyres

Engineered compliance

Advanced Carbon Composite frame is specifically engineered for endurance road riding, delivering a smoother ride quality and less fatigue on long rides. The D-Fuse seatpost and handlebar system works seamlessly with the frame to absorb road shocks and vibrations.

Endurance road geometry, added tyre clearance (up to 32c) and disc-brake integration allow you to tackle a variety of roads and conditions, from smooth pavement to rugged backroads and mountain passes.

Shimano Ultegra

  • Shimano's latest Ultegra 8000 STI 2x11 shifters and gear mechs are even closer to Dura-Ace level in terms of their smooth, slick and precise performance
  • Another upgrade UItegra riders particularly appreciate is that it offers a firmer shift than 105, delivering a quicker downshift onto the smaller ring under pressure

Tubeless Tyres

Every Giant Defy Advanced model rolls on tubeless tyres for extra comfort and fewer punctures.

Giant Conduct hydraulic disc brakes

Giant's unique take on cable-operated hydraulic disc brakes: each brake is initially cable controlled from the Shimano Ultegra STI brake lever, but only to its reservoir, which is hidden under the handlebar stem from where a hydraulic line connects it to the caliper. The benefit of this system is that you get the improved power and modulation of a hydraulic brake while the caliper is much neater than previous hybrid cable/hydraulic systems for road bikes.

Seamless disc brake integration including flat mounts and 12mm front and rear thru-axles produces more consistent braking power for better control, even in wet weather and rough roads.

Giant D-Fuse Seatpost

The Giant D-shaped carbon composite seatpost works in tandem with the skinny seatstays to do a remarkable job of damping bad vibes that would otherwise be transmitted from unsmooth road surfaces.

Giant Defy Advanced Carbon Composite Frameset

  • Every Defy Advanced frameset is fabricated in-house by Giant, starting with performance-grade Toray T-700 raw carbon fibre to create a stiffer, lighter weight and more compliant ride.
  • Blending Toray T700 carbon filament and resin with vibration-absorbing particles helps maximise rider comfort and frame strength (hence the lifetime guarantee).
  • Modified Monocoque Construction: the front triangle is assembled and moulded as one continuous piece.
  • The main frame is then joined to the rear chainstays and seatstays in a secondary process.
  • This process eliminates the outermost woven composite sheet to reduce weight without affecting ride quality, strength or stiffness.
  • The seatstays are as skinny as you will get - any thinner, the stays would be rods, not tubes.
  • These stays don't just lower the frame's weight, they work with the D-fuse composite seatpost to help create the bike's road-buzz-defying magic-carpet ride.
  • Fewer holes - for instance, both internally-routed derailleur cables are routed through one hole in the head tube not two. That's significant because holes in carbon frames have to be reinforced, so reducing the number of holes saves weight.
