Genesis Tour De Fer 30 2018
With it drop bars and higher geared Shimano Tiagra 3x10 drivetrain, Genesis top of the range Tour De Fer is a fast road / audax-style touring bike.
Differences from Genesis Tour De Fer 20
- The Shimano Tiagra drivetrain matches a 30/39/50 chainset with an 11-32 cassette, which is fine for most climbs while enabling an extra burst of speed without spinning out on the flat, as can be the case with lower-geared transmissions
- Genesis compact flared bars, sized by bike size, offer easier transition from the bar tops to the drops
- With its anodised aluminium body, the B&M Lumotec IQ-X headlight is even more deluxe
- TRP Spyre-C are among the best rated mechanical disc brakes
- Unlike the majority of mechanical disc brakes, which only have one moving piston, TRP Spyre disc brakes have two. Both pistons move equally against the rotor. The result: more consistent and even braking performance, less likelihood of brake rub and less maintenance required.
Same as Genesis Tour De Fer 20
- Reynolds 725 frame
- Reynolds tubing has been a first choice of discerning frame builders and bike riders since at least the 1930s
- Reynolds 725 is a heat-treated, butted CrMo steel tube set which, in the hands of Genesis, creates a comfortable, super-resilient, lightweight frame. See road.cc review
- Fitted with a beautifully minimal yet super strong Tubus front rack to match the rear
- Strong, smooth rolling wheels built on Sun Ringle Rhyno Lite 36h rims and SP PD-8 front / Shimano disc brake hubs
- SP front dynohub/B&M lights are legendary in adventure cycling circles and they promise battery-free lighting forever
- Fast on tarmac, supple on dirt roads, Schwalbe Marathon Mondial 700x35s are among the most puncture-resistant tyres made
- The chromoplastic mudguards are extra long for extra coverage
Here's how Genesis describe their Tour De Fer 30
The bike you'd turn to if you were to quit your job and embark on an impromptu pedal-powered world tour!
Build-wise, we dressed the frame with durable, no-nonsense components that we knew from personal experience are tour/expedition worthy and should last the sorts of high-mileages for which the bike was intended. The spec list should, by all accounts, read like a cyclo tourist's wishlist; even going so far as to include an SP dynamo hub with B&M front and rear lights! Expedition-ready straight from the box - just add rider, luggage and a strong sense of adventure.
