Product Description

Frog 62

'If you want a bike that will inspire a child to cycle, this could be it.' See Frog 62 review in the Guardian, 29 April 2017

The Frog 62 is an easier rolling, lighter weight 24 inch wheel kids' bike.

As an example of their original approach, rather than numbering their kids' bikes by wheel size, Frog size their bikes by inside leg measurement. Hence the Frog 62 is recommended for children with a minimum inside leg measurement of 62cm (24.5 inches). This corresponds with other manufacturers' 24 inch wheel kids' bikes. The Frog 62 would therefore make a great present for children from 8-10 years old. It comes with a long aluminium seatpost with a quick release seat binder to make it easy to adjust the saddle as the child grows all the way up to 12, 13 or 14 years old.

Lighter Weight
Frog bikes, like better-quality adult bikes, are built with aluminium frames and (mostly) aluminium parts to keep the weight to a minimum. That way your child(ren) will experience maximum joy riding one of these bikes.

Faster wheels
Another original detail is that the Frog 62 comes with lightweight alloy quick release wheels fitted with good quality Kenda 24 x 1.5 inch hybrid tyres which will be easier rolling than the 24 x 2 inch knobbly mountain bike tyres you'll find on most of their competitors' bikes. Skinnier tyres make a Frog bike easier to accelerate and hence more fun to ride much of the time.

Second pair of tyres
Having said that, if you young-one wants to get more adventurous, you'll be delighted to hear that the Frog 62 comes supplied with a second pair of knobbly mountain bike tyres. That way, a simple tyre swap will make the bike fit for dirt tracks and trail centres.

Colour choice
Technical attributes aside, this is no ugly frog. Frog bikes look good, so your child should be really proud to own one. To help ensure the bike delights, Frog bicycles are available in a choice of colours.

Cycling Weekly 9/10 review
When the Frog 62 was first launched in Autumn 2013, Cycling Weekly scored it a very impressive 9/10. Full review.

Cycling Weekly's one caveat was that the gear range could be wider to make hill climbing easier. Frog have addressed this issue by upgrading the Frog 62 (and every other hybrid bike and road bike in their range from size 52 to 73) with a Shimano Alivio rear gear mech and a wider range of gears courtesy of a 32-tooth chainring and an 11-32 eight-speed cassette to replace the original model's 36-tooth chainring and 14-28 seven-speed freewheel.

More Key Frog features

  • Lightweight aluminium alloy frame (12 inch seat tube) and fork.
  • The aluminium wheels are quick release so there is no need to carry a spanner to change the inner tube
  • Easy to use high quality Shimano Alivio Rapidfire Plus 8-speed gear shifter and Acera rear derailleur.
  • While their competitors make do with entry level Shimano Tourney gearing, Frog hybrid bikes come with mid-range Shimano Alivio/Acera, frequently spec'd on £500-£600 adult bikes.
  • The alloy cranks are a child-friendly short (127mm) length with 32t chainring.
  • The sealed bottom bracket ensures these cranks spin freely.
  • The 500mmwide alloy handlebar is fitted with narrow grips for smaller hands.
  • This bars are fitted to a short 40mm alloy stem to keep them within easy reach.
  • Tektro alloy V-brakes with alloy levers are such excellent stoppers, they are a common sight on good quality £300-£400 adult bikes.
  • Minimum recommended inside leg measurement to the floor: 62cm.
  • Approximate age range: from 8/10 to 12/14 year old.
  • Manufacturer's published weight: 9.7kg.

'Frog Bicycles
We are a small British company dedicated to making cycling fun for children. We believe that the lighter the bike, the easier it is for children to learn to ride, and to enjoy it more as they progress. Many children's bikes on the market weigh nearly as much as the child! So we set about re-designing the kids' bike, sourcing a light but strong aluminium frame, and hand-picking components that offer a high performance without compromising the weight. The founders, Jerry and Shelley, are a couple who have 2 small children of their own – both keen cyclists. So they know something about what motivates children to get on their bikes! Since the first prototype arrived, the bikes have always been robustly tested by the children and all their friends.'

Excellent bike Review by Garry
Bought a frog for my son in sept after seeing my daughter struggle with her cheap (£140) heavy hard to use bike. My son flies about on it no problem up n down hills with ease changing gears no problem with easy shift gears, very light weight & great service from Edinburgh bicycle. So much so that I’m (Santa) is getting one for my daughter.
Worth every pennie & will bring on your children’s abity to cycle enormously. (Posted on 24/11/2017)
Really light weight, good quality bike.Review by Sparky Devon
Really light weight, good quality bike. Comes with knobbly tyres as well as the hybrid style. My daughter has covered loads of trail miles and it is always comfortable. Will also fit her in years to come due to its clever geometry. Edinburgh bicycle were really helpful with great service. (Posted on 30/04/2017)

Product Questions

Sort by ASC
I seen on the frog website that the since June 2015 the frog 62 comes with a 127mm 32T crank and two sets of tyres, is that the model that you have in stock?
Can we use mountain bike tyres on this bike?
Can a smaller chainring and/or larger rear cassette be fitted? The 36x28 ratio seems high for climbing hills compared to my own bike. Maybe not an issue as the child is 30kg compared to my 80kg?
How long do you think it will be before the orange frog 62 will be in stock please? I'm correct in thinking they come with mudguards included?
