Cervelo R5 Ultegra 2019 Carbon Road Bike

Looking for the best off-the-shelf race-ready road bike for the money with full analogue Ultegra groupset? The Cervelo R5 Ultegra is a clear contender.

The R5 will fuel your passion, whether you find glory in winning races or beating your friends to the top of the hill. The R5 makes no compromises as a race machine first and foremost: like you, it thrives on punishment.

Cervélo R5 Ultegra features

  • Lighter, stiffer and more aerodynamic, Cervélo tell us this is the stiffest rim-brake road frame they have ever produced, thanks to its new Squoval Max tube shapes
  • Why, because stiffness = faster acceleration and climbs
  • Pro fit
  • The BBright asymmetrical bottom bracket makes for a stiffer, lighter frame
  • Reduced-Friction bottom bracket guides improve gear shifting
  • The frame's internal cable routing is future proofed should you ever consider a Di2 upgrade
  • Full Shimano Ultegra drivetrain and matching brakes
  • Unlike previous years when Cervélo slipped in a non-Shimano chainset, this year's model features a proper Shimano Ultegra 8000 crankset with 52/36 chainrings and an 11-30 cassette to offer super slick shifting over a wider range of gears
  • DT Swiss P1800 Spline 32 wheels rolling on Continental Grand Prix SL 25mm tyres

Here's how Cervélo describe the R5 Ultegra 8000 2018

A high performance bike you can trust. Stiffness and geometry work together for pedalling efficiency and stable handling. Wider tires and frame compliance create a smoother ride to help reduce your fatigue.

Cervélo values user-friendly and intuitive adjustments. The thoughtful details of the R5 will delight you: RAT thru axles for fast wheel changes, plenty of tire clearance (for tires up to 28mm wide), and an integrated computer mount for uncluttered handlebars.

We made the R5 stiffer at key points in the bike while maintaining its featherweight status. In fact, the disc model of the R5 is our stiffest ever road bike frame. The R5's careful balancing of stiffness and weight results in a bike that accelerates quickly but is stable and predictable at speed.

The stiffness of your bike has a big impact on your ride experience. The instant connection you feel when you ride a bike with efficient power transfer and responsive handling is a result of stiffness of the bottom bracket area, fork, and head tube. Cervélo has spent years researching and testing these different types of stiffness to create the best possible riding experience for you.
