Product Description

If you need further proof that Cannondale have arrived in the traditionally European-dominated world of road bikes, check the new Cannondale R2000. The R2000 is built on the same CAAD5 frame that powered Team Cannondale/Saeco to 2 stage victories at this year's Giro d'Italia. At 2.8lb/1.27 kg, the CAAD5 frame is as seriously lightweight as we have come to expect from Cannondale. What's more, Cannondale's unparalleled experience of manipulating aluminium and their development of, for instance, more vertically compliant hourglass seatstays means that the bike is far more comfortable to ride than a first generation fat tubed aluminium frames. Following the same comfort theme, the frame is matched with the Cannondale Slice fork with vibration-damping carbon fibre blades. Even more innovative, further weight saving is achieved by eliminating the conventional headset. Instead, the CAAD5 system employs a pair of lightweight sealed cartridge bearings set into CNC-machined recesses within the frame's oversized head tube. Intriguingly, this headset was developed as a joint venture with the world experts in bicycle bearings, Campagnolo. Their marketing manager, Simone Roncali, said: 'We mated our new Record "Hiddenset”, the finest and lightest headset we've ever designed, with the extraordinary Cannondale CAAD5 - it yielded a winning union.' Such an endorsements from the heartland of road racing offers eloquent proof that Cannondale, the most American bicycle company, has truly arrived in Europe. No wonder when the combined weight of the CAAD5 frame + fork + headset is less than 4lbs.

Upgrades from R1000:

  • CAAD5 frame
  • Slice Prodigy fork with alloy steerer and Si (System Integration) steering system with Campagnolo Record headset
  • Mavic Ksyrium wheels - 'The most exciting development in wheel design since the deep section aero rim itself. Light enough to be chosen by Lance Armstrong.' Cycle Sport mag, December 1999
  • Virtually the full Shimano Ultegra groupset
  • Ti-railed saddle
