Product Description
p>With its intelligent butting and narrow-diameter Hourglass seatstays, the Cannondale CAAD5 frame is exalted as one of the most comfortable aluminium frames made.

  • 3.4 lb/1.54 kg CAAD5 (Cannondale Advanced Aluminum Design) frame. A critical element in the CAAD5’s weight-saving design is the frame’s rear triangle, which is configured solely for disc brakes. The disc brake-specific design immediately trims weight by eliminating the CAAD4’s cantilever brake bosses and mounting studs. More importantly, the disc-specific design lets Cannondale's frame designers remove even more weight by using slimmer, lighter seat stays than the heavier tubes required to accommodate cantilever brakes. Besides being lighter, the new hourglass-shaped seat stays also provide more vertical compliance to give you increased comfort, yet they remain rock-solid under pedaling loads for incredible efficiency. Finally, the rear triangle also features a replaceable rear derailleur hanger and weight-saving cut-outs on the drive-side dropout, plus a sturdy, triangular disc brake mount on the non-drive side.
    The Headtube
At the other end of the frame, the CAAD5’s CNC-machined head tube also reduces weight. The head tube is double-butted around two thirds of its circumference, with material machined away from its outer surface. The tube’s original wall thickness remains intact along its upper and lower edges for secure mounting of the headset cups, and along its back surface for added strength at the top tube and seat tube welds.
    The PowerPyramid Downtube
The CAAD5 also employs Cannondale's unique PowerPyramid down tube which simultaneously increases in diameter and decreases in wall thickness near the bottom bracket shell. The PowerPyramid provides the CAAD5 with the light weight and flex-resistance of a thin-walled, oversized tube at the bottom bracket shell, and with the added strength of a thicker wall at the head tube.
    The Bottom Bracket
The CAAD5 also utilizes the machined bottom bracket shell developed for the CAAD4, where weight is reduced by shaving material away from the centre portion of the shell’s inner surface. A thicker wall at each end of the shell secures the bottom bracket cups.

  • Maintenance-free Headse with ABEC-3 aircraft-quality bearings never needs adjusting, and won't ever loosen during a ride.
