Brompton P6R 2017

With its multiposition P-style bars and its wide range of 6-speed gears, the Brompton P6R is especially recommended for longer distance rides.

Brompton classify each model by its handlebar type, its gearing and whether or not it has mudguards and a rear rack, hence P6R.

Brompton P6R

'P' stand for P-Type Brompton, meaning it comes with multi-position ergo handlebars. The lower section of the bars is 880mm high, the highest section is 1,033mm above ground level. (Compare with Brompton S-Type flat bars which are 935mm high and their classic M-Type U-shaped bars which are 1,015mm high at the handlebar grips). P-Type bars enable you to ride with your hands higher or lower than Brompton's M or S-Type bars.

Cycling with your hands on the lower section of the bars can create a more aerodynamic profile when you ride into a headwind. You can shift your hands to the bar tops when you want to sit upright and make the most of a tail wind or just to enjoy the view. Holding the side of the bars emulates riding on a drop bar's hoods when you're cruising along. A bar that offers so many options is a great antidote to feeling cramped, as can happen if your handlebars only offer one riding position. P-type bars can therefore help ensure maximum comfort on the bike, especially on long days out.

'6' refers to Brompton's unique combination of their BWR (Brompton Wide Range) hub and their 2-speed derailleur gear system, which offers a wide (33-100 inch) spread of gears for riding hilly terrain.

'R' is Brompton code for coming ready fitted with mudguards and a rear pannier rack.

New for 2017
Brompton's continued growth and success is based on starting with a great idea - what is generally considered the best folding bike design - and then continually developing it. For 2017, Brompton have upgraded the ergonomics of every bike as follows:

  • Lock-on handlebar grips stay put, they will never slip out of position and they're lighter weight
  • Brass Bell - this sweet-toned bell is mounted on the brake lever so it's always within easy reach
  • You can mount the bell on the right or LH brake lever - whichever is more convenient
  • Underbar gear shifters are more intuitive to operate
  • Saddle Light Mount - a special mount at the top of the seatpost provides a perfect perch for a rear light
